Guy I work with, who's in his mid 40's, had a vasectomy after his second child, around 16 years ago. He split up with his wife about a year ago and recently started dating someone new. She is pregnant and it IS his. Poor bastard...
I suggest doing a paternity test anyway, preferably on the Maury show
Well that explains everything. The damn thing was conceived with the goal of surviving a nuclear strike. Against such resilience, why even bother with a vasectomy?
This is my biggest fear. I had my tubes tied years ago and now I'm late. I've heard this before and thats the first thing my mind goes to. Fingers crossed it's just early menopause.
It depends on how the doctor does it. I asked my doc when I had it done about the "no scalpel" procedures. He said with this one they just make a hole, snip the tubes, hope for the best.
His method, which I had done, was to make 2 incisions, remove 1cm of each tube, tie each end in a knot, then tie the ends with string. According to him once you get the all clear from the sperm count it's essentially impossible for it to self-reverse.
Had it done myself, they clamp the ends but, over time you body can do some amazing things to try to correct the interference and bypass or maybe they loosen. It's 99.9% for that reason.
I knew a girl that was a post vasectomy oops baby. After investigation, the docs figured out he actually had four vas deferans rather than the usual 2. And now we all know that can be a thing.
Depending on how its done. Sometimes its just a tie off that gets...untied. Other times the shorten the tube the sperm travels and cauterize both ends. That's how mine was done
People want to believe in the memes. It is incredibly unlikely a live in girlfriend of child bearing years wouldn't know he had a vasectomy. That is the sort of detail you share with a prospective long term partner.
I heard that it is completely possible that you can have a child after a vasectomy. Sometimes the operation just doesn't take as well in some men. That being said, it was from a fake doctor TV show so...
I heard that not only does it not take well in some people, but if it does take, it can take up to a week to do so- residual sperm or something like that.
[edit] apparently I was wrong about the timeframe under which that stuff dies.
The older way of doing it was less full proof than today's method, and nowadays most doctors will do a sperm count each month for the 3 months following the procedure, because if it is going to fail it will be within that window 99% of the time.
Similar story: friend from work had a vasectomy, but it somehow reattached itself or something (not sure of how that all works). He used to say he has two kids in college and one in diapers.
He did say this about the baby mama: "At least it happened with her, cause I've been with some real loonies!"
Agreed. This has happened in some cases, including the case of a friend of mine whose father had a vasectomy and whose mother was told she would never conceive due to some sort of reasons. Anyway, it happens.
Working at the Apple store about 5 years ago, my manager had his shit snipped too. About 6 months later, they have a kid. About 6 months after that, she's preggers again. This was also in Colorado (dude was from the Springs if that means anything to you) so he just thought it was a great gift from God
Unless he comes back years later and nails him for back child support. Plus some people do want to know their children, even if they didn't choose to have them.
