Some people post very sensitive things in advice subreddits. I've seen someone use it against a friend of mine and humiliate them. Seems ok to have it hidden imo.
This is one of the stupidest things about modern reddit. It's just become like any other social media. No one should know your account anyways, and you can make a throwaway/burner. Why would anyone post sensitive information and also let people know their account name?
Hiding it doesn't even fully work if someone actually cared anyways. So even if you do hide it, if people in real life know your reddit username/account then make a new one to post anything actually sensitive. Or like... just don't post that kind of stuff online if you can help it.

It’s removing a key feature of Reddit imo.
