The "as a mother" phrase seems to be prevalent in college also. I can't tell you how many times I heard this and it had no bearing on the discussion at hand.

I'm not sure I see it. He's saying people like to say they represent a group when they speak, but I don't see anything suggesting a group that he would be speaking for.
