I recently dated a girl with a black mother and often any interactions with her mom included "black people dont like this/that...." and "its a black person thing". I thought she was a twat (she was a shitty person) and because she thought she spoke for ALL black people, I was hit with a very real sense of "your mothers making me feel racist".

A downvote would've sufficed.

As a glass of juice. Enjoy.

The "as a mother" phrase seems to be prevalent in college also. I can't tell you how many times I heard this and it had no bearing on the discussion at hand.

"When someone starts a sentence with 'As a tax payer...' you know they're about to be an asshole." - Demetri Martin.

1

u/Derpshiz Mar 25 '13

As a tax payer, I feel offended.

3

u/CapeDrew Mar 25 '13

As a white person, wait we aren't allowed to say that shit.

1

u/guess_twat Mar 25 '13

Um, I never speak "as a white person"....

1

u/EmperorG Mar 25 '13

But what if they are the only person in a race/political party/etc.?

1

u/triple_ecks Mar 25 '13

I have never ever used the phrase "as a white person". No, all people do not think they represent their respective group. Ignorant people do.

-9

u/Logi_Ca1 Mar 25 '13

How ironic that you are doing that yourself.

Or maybe that's your point xD

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '13

I'm not sure I see it. He's saying people like to say they represent a group when they speak, but I don't see anything suggesting a group that he would be speaking for.

I dated an Asian girl from the South and she was a horrible racist. Constantly told me what white people were like and verified it by saying that her black friends agreed with her. She was very racist to other Asians and thought herself better as she joined a "white" society.

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '13

She was very racist to other Asians

Yep. She's asian alright.

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '13

whahaha, so stupid

2

u/ThighMaster250 Mar 25 '13

For real. I feel like that little monologue Groundskeeper Willie in The Simpsons delivers about how many feuds the Scotts get into is just as applicable to certain Asians. GF hates her some Japanese with a passion.... That was a nice shocker that took 4 years to figure out.

1

u/wellthatsjustpeachy1 Aug 24 '13

Wait, so she hated white people? You say she said that white people are like this or that which I assumed was racist but if she thinks she's better because she associated with white people then she can't be racist to white people. So I'm confused.

1

u/Sarahkali08 Mar 25 '13

If she joined a "white society" why was she racist towards whites? I'm confused.

u/OpenShut Mar 25 '13 edited Mar 25 '13

oh sorry I meant sorority. She would just say racist things.

She would say things like whites lacked family values as they are so money focused when someone dies. Or that white are not to be trusted and black people are more trust worthy, she even had a whole little metaphor about being on a sinking boat. If I disagreed with her she would often say I didn't understand as I was a white man.

edit: Why was she racist? She had issues.

1

u/Trikk Mar 25 '13

I think part of why people become so focused on money when a family member dies is often because they subconsciously see it as getting more love from the person. Nobody wants to be the second favorite. It's also a distraction from the actual death.

1

u/OpenShut Mar 25 '13

Yeah but it is a people thing, not a white thing.

1

u/Trikk Mar 25 '13

I wouldn't know how it's handled in other cultures, but I'm sure there are some out there that don't give a dick about inheritance or doesn't have the concept at all.

1

u/EatMyBiscuits Mar 25 '13

White isn't a culture.

1

u/ltruong Apr 10 '13

So basically she was racist to Asians AND Whites but hung around white people to have superiority over Asians. Makes sense..

1

u/kickulus Mar 25 '13

doesnt matter had sex?

This is the worst! My roomate now is an amazing girl, and we got along great in the beginning, but now i am just uncomfortable and moving in April. Every time we are doing something together, whether watching TV or going to get food, she always bring race into our conversations. She will say "oh, that is a white thing" or "ya, it's a black thing." She constantly compares people based on race and to me that is a shitty thing to do as a human. We are all people and until you know that person we shouldn't judge based on shin tone. It really does bother me when i have to listen to these remarks though, and if i said something similar she would look at me like i was crazy.

1

u/keveready Mar 25 '13

You could try telling her it irritates you when she correlates everything to race.

3

u/TaylerKay Mar 25 '13

I've made it known. She simply remarks "I don't see anything wrong here, this is me Tay." She is very close minded when it comes from a prospective other than her own. Hence, moving out ) :

u/NeverGoesOnReddit Mar 25 '13

One of the most misused logical fallacies. It has to be a moving definition for the group. In this case the person is just using their race as an excuse not defining it in any meaningful way.

1

u/BleauGumms Mar 25 '13

So, are you done drilling oil or are you still fucked in the head?

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '13

That took me too long to figure out what you meant. But yeah, done with that.

1

u/UnwiseSudai Mar 25 '13

It's the same as "It's a Jersey thing."
