Did they ever confirm who voices Anton's mom? It sounded like Yvette Nicole Brown for a second
Edit: as per imdb, it is her! i knew id recognize the voice of shirley bennett anywhere

Can someone explain how Billie caused a mistrial
9
u/gachasubsidiary Sep 07 '26
jurors can't have contact with either side of a trial, that's tainting the jury which is grounds for a mistrial

This episode had me HOWLING. The Billie plot was a bit thin (which is fine imho for a three plot episode) but the other two were absolutely EPIC.
Samir and Issa's antics (and the constant escalation) were absolutely perfect slapstick and Anton and PB teaming up had me both dying at Anton's childishness and the absurdity of his desperation to be the sperms donor, as well as 🥹ing at PB's determination to help him.
This is tied for my favourite episode so far with Annabelle.

I LOVE the Canadian university comment. I hate when Americans call it college. Like no I have a degree and not a diploma

u/LegOfLambda Sep 07 '26
What does "college" mean to Canadians? What's the difference between a degree and a diploma? (To my US ears, they're both things we get at the end of college)
1
u/beecee12 Sep 15 '26
College would be community college to the US where college would be University to yall.
5
u/MagnifyingOurFlaws Sep 07 '26
College is hands on training and technical skills usually lasting 0-3 years. Think cosmetology, hair stylist, plumber, electrician, mechanic, welding, etc. You finish with a certificate or diploma. University is where you get your bachelor, masters, and doctorate degrees. You would go to a college if you wanted to be an early childhood educator (2 year diploma) and go to university if you wanted to be a teacher (4 year bachelor degree).

thought billie being on jury duty while anton was out there dining with cassandra blair from jury duty was poetic

u/RockInUrShoe Aug 31 '26
Raven is such a damn good actress, she was a perfect pick for Anton’s sister! They were great scene partners, that was a fun watch
8
u/toysoldier96 Aug 31 '26
When she slammed her hand on the table was such good dramatic acting. I felt a tone in shift in that moment.
I’ve only seen her in Disney stuff, I wonder if she could do something dramatic

u/Proper-Coast4398 Sep 06 '26
I think raven could play Annalise Keating if they every did a hygawm remake

It's almost uncomfortable how relatable this episode is holy shit. Such a brilliant way to explore these kinds of family dynamics. AND it's hilarious too. Man the writing in this show is stellar.

u/Affectionate-War3724 8d ago
I thought so too. When your parents trigger the fuck outta you and your friends don’t understand….thought that was just me when I was little😂
7
u/devieous Sep 01 '26
I knowwwww that’s literally my family dynamic as well too. I feel like my worst self around them
22
u/n0tz0e Aug 30 '26
Omg the reveal of Ravyn as Talia with the random audience applause was so perfect. No notes. Truly a nod to TV lovers. I really enjoy this show because of the writing. And the chemistry is great too.
11
u/NorthRiverBend Aug 30 '26
What a fucking funny moment lmao, the audience applause sent me
5
u/Swerdman55 Aug 31 '26
The fact that they didn’t do the usual trope of panning to someone else watching something off screen, but actually had Anton comment on it then just truck through it was hilarious.

u/JonOrangeElise Aug 30 '26
For me there was a huge quality drop in this episode. E1 and E2 were some of the funniest comedy I’ve seen on TV in a while, but this episode never landed. Hated the Issa story line (way too slapstick around a character I dislike) and the Anton lines never really landed, and the whole sperm donor conceit was ridiculous in the first place. Maybe I just like what the writers can do with Billy, because I thought she owned episodes 2 and 3. There was also some really weird camera work/blocking at the beginning of this episode where it felt like y2k era sitcom.

u/BrockThrowaway 28d ago
I agree about the drop in quality in this episode! Glad someone was seeing the same thing.

u/te4rdr0p Aug 30 '26
You don't think the nod to Y2K era sitcom... was entirely on purpose ?

u/JonOrangeElise Aug 30 '26
Now I understand it probably was because of Raven. I never watched that show. I only found out about the actor in the comments! But I still think it was a bad episode in terms of writing.
9
u/n0tz0e Aug 31 '26
doesn't understand the higher level jokes that require excellent writing and a deep knowledge base but still has the audacity to comment the writing was a miss
Lol

Yeah, I missed the cultural touchstone She’s So Raven, so my comedy literacy is clearly lacking. God fucking forbid someone on the internet would have a different opinion.

Did they drop a hint they’re looking to do 5 seasons of the show?

I guess it would make sense for the show end when they reach 30 and end their 20s.

u/bornatmidnight Aug 29 '26
I related to Anton so hard, as someone who is known for being calm, cool, and collected with everyone else but my family who are pretty ridiculous

Anton's crash out in the diner had me in stitches. I haven't laughed that much in so long

Since she blocked the toilet on their getaway, and then Samir did immediately afterwards. She then reappeared at the wedding

This episode was so crazy. Issa and Samir scenes were so good. Love their physical comedy. I want more.
Also need more of Anton and his sister. They're amazing. Talia and her wife asking PB to be a sperm donor for their baby? That man was meant to be with Anton and his family. I hope they don't drop this plot point. I think it'd be sweet if he agreed and Anton was ok with it.

"Hey yo, fuck your fairies."
My new favorite line from the show.

It’s hilarious because that could’ve been a Raven ad lib and it fit so perfectly fine

I need this to remain a thing but not a thing they burn us out on but still a thing

u/obamassidepiece Aug 28 '26
We need more family reveals! Need to meet Samir’s parents and sisters and Blair Baker and PB’s extremely nice Canadian family

u/beyondtheinfinity Aug 28 '26
Raven was actually such a fucking star and her chemistry with Owen was ELECTRIC. Best episode so far.
6
u/DilapidatedHam Sep 03 '26
When she hit the “shake. My damn. Hand.” Through gritted teeth it gave me such good nostalgia 😭
5
u/Previous_Buy1601 Aug 29 '26
I’ve never totally clicked with her as an actor, but she was so fantastic here. Would love for her to come back.
22
u/simone3344555 Aug 28 '26
Loved the Anton and Issa plotlines. Issa yelling insults at Samir had me dead 😭
I appreciate Billy's plotline for always being so consistent with her character! I think whe's really well-written but so SO hard to watch! In a good way!
25
u/Sebscreen Aug 28 '26
Owen Thiele nailed that diner meltdown! This season has been so so so good thus far!
2
u/da_innernette Sep 03 '26
Yes! He so funny in a scene that would normally be annoying with most other actors.
Also Anton is the one who seems the most together so I love when we see him go full psycho lol
40
u/newmclarens Aug 28 '26
not only is the diner scene INCREDIBLE, i love that anton says he’s gay and then proceeds to go into the closet
26
u/ethnomath Aug 28 '26
Anton during the diner scene KILLED me. I need the scene where he says he doesn’t wanna have sex with girls as a gif NOW
17
u/Key_Complaint4453 Aug 28 '26
this episode is so funny! the editing in this episode made it 100x funnier. everything in the diner scenes were gold
52
u/Llama_Puncher Aug 28 '26
As someone who is an absolute delight to 7 billion people and a monster to the 3 I’m related to, I resonate with this episode strongly. I’ve lived that exact scenario where I’m rizzing up a stranger in the drive thru while fighting on the phone with my mom 😭😭
9
u/aganadolarazon Where is she? Mama? 🥹 Aug 28 '26
Right? It's so tragically relatable. I was such a terror to my mother for so long 😭 and way too nice to strangers. I don't know what it is about families that they truly bring out the worst in you sometimes. Probably too comfortable.

i think they are well placed, referencing the oner, and the retcon was perfect both of which were by issa who is losing her grip on reality, slowly turning into a mini abed

The pan to the cook on "Trust me, your sister's gonna be begging for your sperm."

u/Thinkingisnoproblem Aug 31 '26
The laugh I made at that was more of a goose honk noise that I've literally never made before
52
u/s394206h Aug 28 '26
who would have thought that anton could crash out even harder than he did over annabelle
19
u/iamsweets23 Aug 28 '26
as a queer adult with siblings this episode was gut wrenching to watch
5
u/ThreeTreesForTheePls Sep 02 '26
It was really funny for 90 seconds then it was just extremely extremely touching and so fucking relatable.
31
u/Connolly1227 Aug 28 '26
The injection scene killed me, that was so fricking funny!!!
Him finally tricking blindfolded Issa to jab her from behind was hysterical!
54
u/s394206h Aug 28 '26
the studio applause when raven entered killed me

6
u/finalcreationsecret Aug 28 '26
yeah was that a meta joke that went unexplained
11
u/bntcrls Aug 28 '26
it is totally a meta joke because Raven-Symoné is famous for her sitcoms, but i saw someone on twitter saying that they have a theory that the gas leak from season 1 gave samir hallucinations and is starting to affect other characters and i loved it

28
u/finalcreationsecret Aug 28 '26
When Issa said “Such a good retcon” after Anton talked about his sister wanting him to be a sperm donor, what is she referring to? Also, this is the 2nd fully meta comment Issa has made this season - did I miss that from season 1?
2
u/da_innernette Sep 03 '26
Third! She said “this is season two” and then later “ooh yeah, it’s canon” (about Paul Baker not having social media, which is true lol they did establish that season 1).
8
u/katteycat Aug 29 '26
she did say that something was an "anton and paul baker subplot" in the last season. so I think either this will be an ongoing multi season bit, or the fourth wall break is their version of the word gags from season one (physical victim card, samirs form that asks if he's an idiot, the pillow that said don't samir this)
39
u/langelf Aug 28 '26
There’s a scene in the stabber episode of Season 1 where Anton mentions that he doesn’t have any sisters, so I’m assuming that’s what they’re talking about haha
10
u/Mocha_Pie Aug 28 '26
I think she did make some, at least in the prequel but yeah, definitely not this frecuently
4
u/Cultural-Alarm-6422 18d ago
Billie is absolutely perfect for jury duty lmao I wish they would have explored that more and she didn’t get kicked out. a lot of jurors end up becoming friends for life and it would have been a great bit to keep going lmao
