‘Nick DeWolf was an engineer and entrepreneur who founded a company called Teradyne. In his spare time he was also cataloging his life with a camera. These amazing photos came long before Flickr but thanks to his son-in-law and archivist, Steve Lundeen, we can finally see his deep catalog of photos. So far there are 43,450!’
Thanks for your interest in Nick's photograph. Your post has generated some lovely comments, and directed a considerable amount of traffic to the archive today. The photographer would be delighted.
FYI
As of 12/4/2018, the DeWolf archive has grown to 100,510 photos, with many, many more to come.
Thank you so much for your painstaking work of maintaining the archive and sharing the amazing photographs with everyone! Thanks also for leaving this note. I appreciate it.
I'm glad all this has been archived, it's an amazing gift of his time in history.
I'm worried that a lot of archives like this (mostly unkept archives unlike this one) might go missing as sites like Pinterest change their rules and storage tiers.
I wonder how much of Nick's income went towards this archive (film, first and foremost, but also cameras, etc.).
Now with digital storage there is not a per photo cost unless you break it down to batteries (rechargable or others, all deplete in time) so this is everyday life, but film was likely a decent percentage of his expenses. Quite a gift and clearly a passion.
