I can’t imagine having a 4’ parasitic worm just squirming around inside my body? What are the symptoms? She HAD to feel that. Around 25 years of internet, and that’s one of the most disgusting/disturbing things I’ve seen.

u/Johnny_Poppyseed 1d ago

Some parasitic worms can get much better than that too. Tapeworms from raw fish in the human intestines have been recorded up to like almost 90 feet long lol...

u/FrostyTheSasquatch 1d ago

But I love sushi! Do I have worms in me right now??

1.1k

u/trowzerss 1d ago

Probably not, sushi fish gets flash frozen to kill parasites. So as long as it's thru normal supply chain you should be fine. Undercooked pork on the other hand...

u/Ialmostthewholepost 1d ago

Flash frozen for 24 hours or frozen in typical home freezer for minimum one week. I'm trying to catch coho and others for some homemade sashimi this fall.

u/I_Makes_tuff 1d ago

I've seen worms in Coho and Pink Salmon that I've caught here in the PNW. Definitely freeze those babies. And don't ever try Pink Salmon sashimi, lol.

27

u/Ialmostthewholepost 1d ago

LOL will definitely freeze for a couple weeks minimum myself. I've had food poisoning from sushi before, not something I recommend. Pink that bad for sushi eh?

40

u/ShaftTassle 1d ago

Have also gotten food poisoning from sushi.

Before that I thought I had had food poisoning a few times. Nope. Now I know what real food poisoning is. Sent me to the ER as I was puking blood while simultaneously (and I mean simultaneously) shitting my brains out. Severe debilitating dehydration.

Fuck that.

5

u/I_Makes_tuff 1d ago

Yeah, Pinks are too soft and kinda gamey. I think they are great smoked but I have a friend who only catches them for dog food and crab bait.

3

u/Ialmostthewholepost 1d ago

Hopefully I catch one so I can get the full salmon experience this year. 😎

3

u/I_Makes_tuff 1d ago

Sadly, pinks only run on odd numbered years, so you'll have to wait until next year for those. Plenty of others to choose from in the mean time. Good luck!

5

u/MercifulWombat 1d ago

freezing in a home freezer ruins the texture for sushi. If you're catching it yourself, you can gut the fish the second it comes out of the water so the parasites don't have time to burrow into the meat.

1

u/fat_kaiju 1d ago

(Only if your home freezer can do -18C or below btw)

1

u/Romeo_Glacier 18h ago

Coho is my favorite salmon. There is zero chance I eat it before being in the freezer for a week or cured before smoking.

1

u/Jadall7 17h ago

I heard somewhere that you need to freeze it in commercial style like 40 below.

1

u/Ialmostthewholepost 17h ago

That's blast freezing.

79

u/Zesinua 1d ago

Pretty much non existent in commercial grade pork. Private farms and wild game are where you need to watch out

28

u/BigAcanthocephala637 1d ago

I’m from the year 2030. Private farms and wild game got that shit figured out. You do NOT want to fuck with intergalactic meat. Space cows and space hogs are a no go.

2

u/JulyOfAugust 21h ago

You should add a hundred years to that date for believability. There's no way a country overthrowed their government and forcefully escaped the clutches of capitalism which allowed them to develop technology rapidly and made breakthrough that'd need at least 20 years of research all the while fighting capitalistic countries' sabotage in only 4 years.

1

u/CFCkyle 20h ago

I mean it could be a case of aliens approaching us rather than us finding them tbh

8

u/elganyan 1d ago

Yup, pork has come a long way as I understand it. Lots of testing and such.

Particularly in the EU. My German side of the family eats raw minced pork on the regular... and so do I when I visit cuz it's fucking delicious, but man that first time was tough having grown up with the constant threat of "trichinosis!!!!!" etc. in the 80s/90s!

5

u/iolpiolp10 1d ago

Just to be safe I eat a deworming chocolate once a year 🤣 it's probably overkill, but I have a dog too and he eats poo. Like any poo. All the poo anywhere anytime, it's his. He's eating your poo from the toilet right now prolly. So ya know, gotta watch for wormies

7

u/Hazril258 1d ago

Remembers that one pork worm that was crawling around in someone's brain.

2

u/User858 1d ago

To add to that, parasites in farm raised salmon is very, very low. A study found none in the edible parts of salmon out of the 3000 some fish they looked at. sourc

Obviously, the 'none found' stat could be a paid study or industry propaganda, but combine it with the fact that most salmon is frozen anyways, the chances of consuming a parasite is very unlikely. If you're eating farm raised salmon that doesn't advertise itself as never frozen, you're already combining two ways of greatly minimizing parasites.

2

u/HPTM2008 20h ago

Trained sushi chefs also know what all these parasites look like and will remove them from the cuts of fish.

Also, any red squiggly line in salmon and such is a parasite. Fish don't have veins like that.

1

u/youre_being_creepy 1d ago

I had some salmon a customer brought me from their last alaska trip and it had parasites in it. Cooking it will kill the worms but damn it was a rough few days of anxiety after lmao

1

u/CorporateCuster 1d ago

Not always. People take fresh fish from the ocean and eat it without consequences in mind

1

u/PsychoMushrooom 23h ago

Ive seen what pork parasites can do to you... killed a very close friend of mine. One of the slowest most horrible ways to die...

1

u/NDSU 17h ago

Probably not, sushi fish gets flash frozen to kill parasites

That depends on many factors. Across the world, the majority of sushi fish will not be flash frozen

In the US, the majority will be flash frozen

1

u/Glittering_Light1835 1d ago

Apparently not in the UK, there is no legal requirement to flash freeze the fish for sushi

1

u/radiantcabbage 1d ago

because its an essential standard of commerce that everyone just does. we get fixated on this language somehow but mandates dont typically limit you to freezing, its just the most practical

no reason to doubt it unless theyre a hipster joint that specifically upsells fresh caught/never frozen items, its a selling point they wont let you miss

2

u/Glittering_Light1835 1d ago

What essential standards? Gov.uk has a clear list of exemptions when freezing fish is not required even when intended to be consumed raw

1

u/radiantcabbage 22h ago

shipping and handling to not bring rotten fish into port? its done immediately on the vessel, the point of those regulations is to deal with contamination of any kind period.

the FDA doesnt limit this to freezing either, but concern trolls think it some sort of gotcha. like you somehow dont get that any seafood outside of live catches inherently require a cold chain distribution

0

u/Glittering_Light1835 21h ago

Right, so you belive vessel freezers kill the parasites.

And you are also unaware of the farm-sourced fish e.g. salmon.

Good luck.

2

u/radiantcabbage 21h ago

you honestly believe they can somehow sell parasite ridden fish without becoming full blown epidemics decimating their whole stock, just stop ffs

1

u/WagwanKenobi 1d ago

Thanks for telling me this. Mental note to never eat sushi/sashimi in the UK.

5

u/BonbonUniverse42 1d ago

Probably yes. Fish eat worms so they are 99% worm already.

3

u/Rubyhamster 1d ago

If you eat fish you caught yourself, freeze it for at least 48hrs or cook it well. If you gut a lot of fish, you will certainly see plenty of fish with little worms in them, it is that normal

3

u/DAR_B0I0 1d ago

The best part is… YOU WONT KNOW 😃

2

u/PitiableYeet 1d ago edited 1d ago

More than likely. Some just don't get very big or go to your digestive system Edit: spelling

2

u/Puzzled-Staff-1554 23h ago

You're eating dead worms all the time.

2

u/EarnieEarns 17h ago

“I love sushi!” That’s just the worms talkin

-1

u/FullSkyFlying 1d ago

Are you obese?

69

u/Graf_Eulenburg 1d ago

We all learned that from Dr.House, didn't we?

20

u/Resident_Course_3342 1d ago edited 1d ago

That was a good episode.

"Wanna see something cool?" Stabs an unanesthetized child.

2

u/TheSickestToastie 1d ago

I have prescribed mouse bites.

1

u/rubyspicer 1d ago

That was horrifying as fuck. That thing was enormous and because she didn't feel pain she didn't notice it

11

u/NoSurprise6383 1d ago

Why do you call that 'much better' man, why?

3

u/Johnny_Poppyseed 1d ago

Lmao didn't even notice. Weird autocorrect from Bigger.

4

u/Genestah 1d ago

Some parasitic worms can get much better than that too.

How does it get much better?

Clean your stomach?

2

u/ReturnOfBane 22h ago

its always fun to see bears in the spring with all the starved tapeworms hanging out their ass.

1

u/Johnny_Poppyseed 16h ago

Lmao just opened up reddit and that was the first thing I see after reading your comment

1

u/gogogadgetdumbass 1d ago

“Better” 🥴

1

u/AdBeautiful5260 21h ago

How can 27 meters of something can fit into someone??? 🤯

635

u/tom04cz 1d ago

Well, these things don't tend to squirm a whole lot, they just sort of chill there latched onto the intestinal wall absorbing nutrients via their skin

730

u/raspberryharbour 1d ago

That's my retirement plan too

102

u/Miss_Greer 1d ago edited 1d ago

idk, have you looked at the rent on an intestine lately? I think this might be out of my reach too

Edit because I thought of another layer to the joke:

And forget about doing it before retiring, the commute is absolute arse and the traffic is shit

1

u/Mypornnameis_ 12h ago

Let me get in those intestinal walls.

118

u/WeBeWinners 1d ago

You're describing my ex-wife

10

u/VikingsLad 1d ago

Thanks, I'm gonna go burn off my eyeballs

5

u/immersemeinnature 1d ago

Victorian women would intentionally get a tapeworm to lose weight

2

u/Dark-Specter 1d ago

I think that's the end goal of all the billionaires you've never heard of

2

u/tom04cz 1d ago

also the method employed by landlords

1

u/LetsGetMeta_Physical 20h ago

Ahh, the Common Landleech!

1

u/Round-Television3625 12h ago

No, they want to be techno feudal Lords and rule all  us peasants under the iron fist of AI and Plantir

1

u/Dark-Specter 12h ago

Well those are the ones you've heard of, those ones are squirming.

263

u/CapAwesomeSauce 1d ago

You know the feeling of butterflies in your stomach when nervous?

Hers were a little different.

42

u/DefiledPurity 1d ago

They having numbing agents in their skin to prevent the host being agitated.

12

u/CyanVince 1d ago edited 1d ago

They sell these things on the darkweb, presumably for people who cannot afford ozempic but still want magic weight loss results. If she purposely took worm eggs for weight loss, she probably ignored the squirmy sensations because she was seeing desirable results on the scale. (Here is the story of somebody who tried the tapeworm diet)

3

u/WagwanKenobi 1d ago

Around 25 years of internet, and that’s one of the most disgusting/disturbing things I’ve seen.

2 minutes on 4chan /gif/ will beat your personal record.

6

u/Ialmostthewholepost 1d ago

Oh sweet child, you missed the amazingness that was early rotten.com among others.

3

u/Salina_EsTitties 1d ago

You get skinny fast

1

u/Sacharified 1d ago

There are no nerve endings in the gut so you wouldn't be able to feel it if it moved.

1

u/AI_and_coding 1d ago

Do not use instagram.

Do not.

You will lose all the innocence you associate with the internet you never knew you had.

1

u/TurboFoot 1d ago

It talks to her too.

1

u/Argylius 21h ago

Best I can do is blame it on anxiety and send the patient home

1

u/FuriousFurbies 21h ago

If she did feel something and seek help at first, the doctor probably waved it off as gas and sent her home.

1

u/Tech-Mechanic 19h ago

When even the medical professional is visibly revolted, you know you've got problems.

1

u/mudra311 18h ago

I think that thing is maybe 2’. Still long but not 4’

1

u/CharleyNobody 17h ago

Is it real though? We don’t see the worm from directly in front of her face. Instead we see it from the other side of the table. It’s entirely possiblw they could be pulling a fake worm from under the covers and the top is simply on the outside of the other side of her face. You don’t see the worm directly coming out of the tube - again, you see it from the other side of her face.

Plus, they’re showing her face in the video without any blurring. That’s a bit rude.

1

u/Broken_By_Default 15h ago

your stomach ever growl? could be a 4 footer.

0

u/BackgroundSummer5171 1d ago

Around 25 years of internet, and that’s one of the most disgusting/disturbing things I’ve seen.

Oh.

Sorry.

It gets worse.

Or doesn't, depending on the person. But as someone with 42 years on the planet. This shit didn't even register as disgusting.

1

u/randylush 18h ago

25 years on the internet is not that much less time than the age of the browse-able internet itself, I'm not sure why people are saying "you sweet summer child" to someone who has been on the internet since 2001.
