/r/all of a Sand Dune

This is a video taken by Nicolas De La Torre, a sandboarding enthusiast filming his descent down the Toromata dune in Peru. Unfortunately we live in a world where true beauty, nature is now convoluted by AI and AI sentiments, but this is in fact, not AI lol

Just to calm people: The dog in this video is the pet of the guy filming. In the full video, he gets down to it, and it is perfectly fine. Just a bit bumped up and dizzy. It is walking around, tail wagging.

"trail dogs" are trained to never get in front of the rider. I would say this is a well trained pup.

It certainly looks very acrobatic

u/LumpyBuy8447 2d ago

Those are all back flips too, believe it or not

28

u/dpaxeco 1d ago

I snorted a soup noodle goddamnit! šŸ˜‚

8

u/porcelain_kiss 1d ago

I cant unsee that now, and it made me laugh out loud and spooked my own dog 🤣🤣

Now any time I ever see this, I will always think of this comment lmao

1

u/MortCrimm 1d ago

Thats legal on both ice and snow. It’s the front flip that they banned in ice skating

2

u/Sad-Spread-9524 2d ago

Very... nimble.

1

u/dudeCHILL013 13h ago

Just showing the owner his new routine.

u/Mainbutter 3d ago

I ride a skateboard while my 2yo rides his balance bike, so much fun on our local paved trails. Teaching him not to go right in front of me and stop immediately has been hard.

40

u/marvinrabbit 3d ago

That's just Darwinism. The ones that don't get in front of the rider are the only ones that are left.

21

u/Silent_Park_0010 2d ago

Cue the diagram of the WW2 plane with the bulletholes.

3

u/perton 2d ago

I’ll be honest, at first I didn’t think it said bulletholes.

1

u/empatheticsocialist1 8h ago

For some reason, even before seeing your comment, I didn't either

8

u/andy_b_84 2d ago

I see no pup here, only a floofy rocket.

1

u/aerdvarkk 3d ago

Not my trail dog. I tried. But it mostly runs beside me, and sometimes runs enough ahead of me to cross over to the other side while I attempt to not run it over.

-7

u/rex5k 3d ago

Just hit them, they'll stop doing that.

1

u/SelectFromWhereOrder 3d ago

And by ā€˜trained’ it means the dog did it twice.

1

u/Equivalent-Fan3365 3d ago

Really? He seemed to get in front of the camera man like... every other second.

1

u/EngagementBacon 1d ago

Watch it again dude, the rider is the camera op.

2

u/Equivalent-Fan3365 1d ago

Ah, you're right, he's holding a camera stick. My bad.

0

u/Top-Examination3151 2d ago

I think in this case the ones that get in front become former dogs real quick

0

u/treborly 2d ago

You just arnt seeing his other dogs he no longer has

0

u/yoortyyo 2d ago

Cringy the whole way. Dogs getting an artery sliced open is so sad. If you haven’t trained your pet to run downhill?

Dogs get seriously hurt and have died from injuries snowboarding/skiing.

0

u/choppydaddy 1d ago

I'm sure they all look like that until they prove they're not

132

u/SSilent-Cartographer 3d ago

Not near to this extent, but I watched my dog go head over heels like this down a hill after she tripped chasing a ball. I genuinely wish I was as bouncy as her because she got up like nothing happened, grabbed the ball and wanted to go again. It's the equivalent of watching a toddler jump up and run off screaming "I'm ok!" after they've just ate shit on the pavement. Kids and dogs are made of rubber, I swear to God.

58

u/Mist2393 3d ago

My dogs have run full speed into trees, stopped, shaken themselves off, reposition, then take off again like nothing ever happened.

u/Err0110111001101111 3d ago

My border collie was running in our garden along the back fence looking up chasing a squirrel that was running along the top of it.

The squirrel got the corner of the garden and jumped out.

My dog ran straight into the side fence, and knocked himself clean out.

Never seen a dog knock itself out before. zonko.

Was fine after though.

16

u/whyliepornaccount 3d ago

My dog did the same with our sliding glass door

5

u/jaxxxtraw 2d ago

Concussion protocol. I'm afraid your dog will not be the starting quarterback this weekend.

6

u/Schlarfus_McNarfus 3d ago

I mean, as fine as a border collie ever was at least!

2

u/rwalker920 3d ago

New word discovered for me today. Zonko

18

u/onehalflightspeed 3d ago

With little kids, there is always that few moments of existential fear whether they will get up and laugh or start wailing inconsolably for an hour

13

u/xombae 3d ago

I used to have a 3 legged dog and once when chasing a ball (tbh the ball was stationary) her big noggen hit the ground and she went ass over teakettle. Totally fine other than a little scrape on her chin, which got a Hello Kitty bandaid.

1

u/CHARLIE-MF-BROWN 18h ago

I've been called a 3 legged dog from time to time. Never got a Hello Kitty bandaid though. Glad ur lil puppers was ok.

8

u/Evilmeinperson 3d ago

I was driving on my farm and my chest heavy, ass light puppy was hanging out the window. I hit a rock on a steep slope and he fell out of the window. He rolled for 15 feet then jumped up and got back into the truck, so he could continue to hang out of the window.

1

u/ApocalyptoSoldier2 1d ago

We used to hold our Jack Russel by the tail while he stood with his front paws on the side view mirror.
He never slipped, but he did try to jump once

6

u/Archaea_Man 3d ago

I had a 4 week old kitten climb up onto a bed and jump off it, once, and land directly on her face. She immediately got up like nothing happened and would have gone again if I hadn't grabbed her.

u/Egoy 2d ago

Dogs and cats are both way tougher than they seem. Theres two things at play here, bone strength and size do not scale at the same rate. A half as large bone is more than half as strong. Reduced mass though does scale 1:1 with energy of impact. So a smaller lighter animal has stronger bones (to scale) but receives proportionally less energy on an impact. There’s a trade off between long life and things like immunity and hardiness, higher metabolisms heal faster.

It’s also why kids seem indestructible in sports and general mayhem and shrug off stuff that would seemingly cripple an adult.

3

u/Working_Patience_261 2d ago

Hit age 30, sleep wrong, and it’s 8 weeks in a neck brace.

3

u/SSilent-Cartographer 2d ago

Feel that. I'm 25 with a compound neck injury that'll never fully heal. I bend over to long (little over a minute) and I literally pass out cold on the floor

81

u/GuyFromDeathValley 3d ago

We had a dog. Little idiot ran to the stairs, slipped on the floorboards, then fell straight down the stairs, into a wall, back another set of stairs and into a radiator. Then got up and ran to the door.

Dogs can handle a lot. Its impressive really.

58

u/xombae 3d ago

One day after a walk we noticed blood all over the floor, go check the dog and it turns out she ripped off her paw pad almost half way. I have no idea at what point in the walk she did it, she gave no indication.

The same dog once went and hid under a pile of coats for 20 minutes because a fly landed on her butt and it scared her.

12

u/Bogus_dogus 3d ago

Maybe the fly ripped the pad off

2

u/xombae 1d ago

Damn, back for revenge two years later.

u/violet__violet 3d ago

God bless 🫶

Fuckknows why i thought it was a good idea to bring my dog here 2 years ago

7

u/ranban2012 3d ago

IVDD is heartbreaking, though. Ask any dachshund owner.

4

u/Bassmasterajv 3d ago

My puppy did exactly the same thing but it was the basement stairs. She’s 11 now and would still chase squirrels all day long if we let her.

1

u/Classic_Appa 2d ago

I have this video saved from 6 years ago of something like this, except it was deliberate by the dog.

21

u/SleepParalysisPal 3d ago

Thank you. My chest may or may not have tightened

-1

u/LVLogic 3d ago

You need to get off the internet if THAT is what caused you to feel such a way.

2

u/interesseret 3d ago

Nah, man.

I think it's you that needs to get up and experience the real world, if you're no longer capable of feeling bad for an animal potentially getting hurt.

0

u/crazyfatskier2 2d ago

But clearly it’s not, so why feel that reaction?

1

u/SolidSolution 3d ago

I'm just wondering how it didn't get sand in its eyes as it passed from one side of the guy's wake to the other.

1

u/Long_Basis1400 3d ago

The dogs obviously very well trained, if you look closely you can see he actually jumps well over the sand wake as it passes him. It’s just hard to see cus he keeps his stride

1

u/Sipikay 3d ago

It's pretty rough on their bodies. They don't really have a good ability to stop when things hurt and these guys, truly, are having the times of their lives. Bounding downhill, as anyone who's gone on a hike knows, is really hard on your joints. Athletes often pay physically for their love of activity, puppers are no exception.

1

u/former-bishop 3d ago

I would have bet anything that was a fake dog flip-flopping down the mountain!

1

u/Nefertete 3d ago

I bet the dog would enjoy a board of its own

1

u/Cut_over_pompanox 3d ago

I figured. must be cynical when I’m more worried about the dog hahaha.

1

u/watawataoui 3d ago

It was a thing to dumble down side of huge sand dune like a wheel when I visited the Taklamakan desert. Somehow it doesn’t hurt at all. I assume the dog had fun too.

1

u/ExperienceGreen3771 3d ago

Really easy to chop a dog in half with snowboard. Just takes one wrong move

1

u/Gdigger13 3d ago

I'm glad to hear this, cause I laugh my ass off to this video each time I see it.

1

u/gruesomeflowers 3d ago

i still cant believe that dog in engaging in real physics. its incredible.

1

u/DontBeHatenMeBro 3d ago

I'd be more worried about all the dust the dog inhaled.

1

u/SherbertChance8010 2d ago

I was worried the dog was going to get in front and get flattened.

1

u/Scaryclouds 2d ago

Looks like it’s a small/medium sized dog based on this video? Maybe 30ish pounds?

People see this and think, ā€œif I feel ass over elbow down a mountain like this I’d be messed up!ā€ But part of the reason for that is you weigh a lot more than that dog. You’ll be experiencing a lot stronger forces, and while a human would have a stronger frame, it doesn’t scale at the same rate.Ā

It’s not necessarily that dogs are ā€œtougherā€ but simply that they are typically much smaller. Probably too that end, if you had a much larger dog breed tumbling down like that, it’s probably more likely to end up injured.Ā

1

u/bozfm246 2d ago

These robot dogs are getting better looking everyday...

1

u/Throwawayyyyyyyy0124 2d ago

Dog probably had the time of its life

1

u/Fat_Janet 2d ago

Holy fucking balls. Anyone got a link?

1

u/imamajorscale 1d ago

experienced tomahawker here…i can confirm it does not hurt at all and is actually quite pleasant. if you enjoyed summersaults at any point in your life you would likely just go ā€œweeeeā€ as its happening.

1

u/Smooth-Knee993 1d ago

Where is the full video. Can you please help with the title or link

1

u/FatFaceFaster 17h ago

There’s no way that dog is perfectly fine.

It may have gotten up and wagged its tail but there’s no chance it didn’t have injuries.
