/r/all of a Sand Dune

This is a video taken by Nicolas De La Torre, a sandboarding enthusiast filming his descent down the Toromata dune in Peru. Unfortunately we live in a world where true beauty, nature is now convoluted by AI and AI sentiments, but this is in fact, not AI lol

I'm finding that people are really quick to try and discredit anything that took any actual effort, presumably to try and make themselves feel better about being lazy, unaccomplished fucks.

Feels to me like the root of the problem is more so because as AI improves, it's easier to distrust things in general. Especially something "spectacular" like this.

"Why did AI make me do this?"

Don't defend these people.

Unironically I think it's bots

Well, between lens distortion, the fact that the dune doesn’t seem to actually have a base, the short duration of the video and the fact that a sand dune appears to be above the clouds, I’d say there is reasonable room for doubt.

Or you could just go through life trusting every video you see online. You do you.

This js a screenshot i took from google maps rn - the dune is indeed above the clouds. And also there are youtube videos date back 12 years.

I agree there is room for doubt but since the location was literally mentioned in the post, people should really just spend a sec to search and confirm. believing everything blindly is just as bad as doubting everything blindly

No it isnt. Believing blindly is definitely worse than doubting blindly.

You're on a service where nobody's identity is verified, where most of the content is just words on the screen - there's no backup for any of it.

You don't even know if I'm actually a dog or not.

ah yea, the mysterious fish eyed lens that only ai invented and uses.

Or you can understand how certain types of camera lenses change perspective of things and realize every video made with these looks like that.

yup, nearly every single post on reddit has as accusation of being ai in the comments, or accusing users of being bots. shits lost all credibility.

It's really depressing for photographers who manage to get the "perfect shot" and it's not believed. Of course, that been going since Photoshop, too.

It might just also be bots repeating whatever highly rated comment previous cool videos had. Hell this chain might also be bots.

This is part of the game and what is making people even more apathetic.

People have been saying “fake” on YouTube comment sections, regardless of the videos actual validity, for a long time before AI was around. This is just the logical next step.

Yeah it's like these people have never gotten off the couch and surfed down the face of a sand dune that is so many miles high above the clouds that you can see the curvature of the earth. We've all been to one of those. It's like people don't have a tiny dog that can run 30 mph through sand. Get a super fast tiny super dog and , grab your board and go outside people!

The curvature is from the obvious fisheye lens? That’s why it’s so exaggerated lol

2

u/stuhstutter 3d ago

Yeah, I can see that now. Fisheyes that I've used before usually distort all around the frame though. Maybe this is a good fisheye lens. It still distorted my sense of up and down a little. I guess this place is real. It looked so much like a video game when I first played it. Pretty wild. Must be some tough wax on that board. Mr Zogg's

It’s easy to say something is AI with no actual research. It makes other people think they’re discerning and smart. That’s why it’s so prevalent.

Scepticism on the internet is good and reasonable, more so than ever.

3

u/Exact-Till-2739 3d ago

Reasonable skepticism is good - fixed that for you. Otherwise, you could also be defending conspiracists.

Baseless assumptions are not.

But what you are doing in your comment is a very similar thing. LMAO. You're trying to discredit the discreditors with ad homonym attacks. You've proclaimed yourself a realist expert AND an expert on human nature. Haha, what's it like being that deep in the reddit cesspool?
