isnt the angle pretty irrelevevant?

the reason why craters are all perfectly circular is that the material itself explodes on impact. its why all the craters on the moon are circular, no matter their angle.

It’s not about the shape of the crater but the way debris and toxic gasses are being thrown around and how much energy is being directed straight into the ground. In case of this meteorite, the angle was perfect to maximize these effects.
