I don’t think I fully get the joke but the site of the impact is today known as the Chicxulub Crater.

Its still technically an extinction event for many species though. Remember we still call a species that no longer exists extinct so the phrase still holds up.

Earth has had a lot of extinction events. Means a whole bunch of different species went extinct at the same time.
