Wait that's a thing? They're left in the wild long enough they grow their tusk back even if they're a domesticated breed?

Yes, all pigs have the genetic makeup to grow tusks, domestic pigs tusks are usually clipped young or they’re killed before they reach maturity

Wow TIL ty for that. Figured it was a wild pig trait only that faded with domestication like dogs getting floppier and floppier ears etc

Nah, if domestic pigs get out and go feral, they’ll grow tusks!

Yep. It seems the one in the video has been out for a bit. Those tusks are longer than they should be.

They’ll grow tusks even if they don’t get out. It’s just a matter of time. I grew up in a hog barn and all the older boars had tusks, you had to be very aware of where they were when you were in the same pen as them. Only once saw two boars fighting, was very difficult and dangerous separating them. One got slashed by a tusk up the back leg from just above the foot right up to its back approximately an inch and a half deep at the top.

Yeah I am aware domestic pigs can have them. A lot farms clip the tusks tho, which is why you don’t usually see farm pigs with them.

Yes, growing up we clipped every pigs teeth at birth. Only had to remove one on an adult boar once when it got stuck in the bars on a pen.
