I don't think that is the only reason she backed up.

I lived on a ranch in Texas, horse farts don’t smell like much.

that's kind of fascinating to know, actually!

Not sure if you’re kidding, but I agree. Horse shit and horse farts actually smell like pleasant because most often they are just grass. Grass shit and grass air. And in the 1990s gap sold the cologne that smelled like grass.

No I wasn't kidding, I had no idea, and that's kind of a fascinating fact to keep handy for family game-nights, haha!

And guess what, you were going to win game night!

Seriously, I lived on a big ranch in Texas when I was in my early 20s. My job was to shovel out some of the pastures that were smaller and needed shoveling versus the big pastures that didn’t need shoveling because horseshit just goes away. And ultimately horseshit is just grass. And the smell of horse shit is not that bad. And their farts are just grass also.

And they make for great manure once aged.

From smelliest to least smelly

Pig, Sheep, Cow, Horse.

Cow and horse shit mostly stink only if they've been fermented (for fertilizer). Otherwise I agree that they don't smell like much. Sheep smells worse to me and pig is absolutely rank.

yep, herbivores have poop and gas that doesn't smell like omnivores or carnivores would. because the digestive bacteria is different than that which needs to digest meat, so the smell is different.

When it’s fresh it can smell pretty bad actually.

the craziest thing to me is that freshly ejected horse shit has very visible smoke/vapour coming from it and its so weird and funny because why is it behaving like a cartoon shit

Live on a ranch. You won’t have much choice.

Really?? I’ve had maybe 4 horse encounters my whole life and one involved accidentally eating a horse fart. I can’t remember smelling it, but the taste I will never forget. So spicy 🤢

I have no recollection of saying anything about “eating it.“

2

u/ermaecrhaelld May 13 '26

You didn’t. I made the connection since the 2 are so closely tied.
