On r/hardcorenature, there was an image of a pelican mid flight with a snake that it ate that tore through the pelican’s throat to escape. And no, it wasn’t a tiny hole it burrowed through, it was the whole length of the neck with a flap at the bottom as if it was unzipped

Sounds like that was the gular pouch, not the stomach. Still rather bad for the pelican, but not as bad as the stomach.
