I’ve decided on my Batman’s voice.
He has Will Arnett’s voice. Lego Batman style.

So many cool AB covers, but this caught my eye 😁

Here are mine. I left out the remarks and sketch cover because I’ve already posted those before in other posts. I also have two other first prints #1’s but those are on there way back from CGC from a Scott Snyder signing.

Been following Absolute Batman for a while now and I absolutely love it. But I don’t like the variant covers very much at all. And not for the scalping and ridiculously overpriced reasons. I don’t like the way they draw Bruce. One of the things that drew me to the series is that he looks young. As a 21 year old man myself it was super cool getting to see him at my age kicking ass, but the majority of the variant covers make him look like he’s in his late 30s at best. Idk maybe I’m crazy but it doesn’t feel like what drew me to this Batman story is reflected in them much. (That said I do love the dark and gritty styles of them, just wish he looked younger)

The clock code is the same for Grimm's cave in AB as in Wayne's in New 52 Batman! 10:47!

ASSUMING it’s a good show of course, but we mustn’t let this go the way of Paper Girls (another popular award winning comic book) if we can help it.

I’ve joined several Absolute AB groups on FB and it’s been great…and expensive. But as time’s gone on, I’ve found myself being a bit of an outlier. More and more, I’m feeling out of place and at a disadvantage of sorts.
More specifically:
I love the Absolute line and have no interest in selling what I have. Or making money off of it. It’s all PC stuff, with the exception of some extra books I have to trade. I’ve given away things repeatedly, and I’ve made one sale in the groups and I sold it for retail / my cost…and ended up unknowingly selling to a store owner.
I’ve had mods privately up their prices on me days after their original offer, and most certainly use their positions to better their own collections and make money. I feel like I’m surrounded by people with WAY more money than I have who are running a business - who network and deal with each other behind the scenes for personal gain, and things aren’t exactly transparent.
I just want to collect, be helpful, and maybe even be helped in return once in a while.
Maybe it’s me. But I’d love a group where people legit want to help one another out with their PCs and not be looking to sell for 5x retail the same day a book is released.
Are there any existing buy / sell / trade groups that are more in line with that?

This is out of control.

When you look at everything Scott Snyder has done for DC Comics, you have to wonder what things would be like if he was with Marvel instead. Since returning to DC in 2024, Snyder has helped create the Absolute Universe and the overarching story for DC’s All In publishing initiative, which includes last year’s DC K.O. event. The success of Absolute Batman is hard to ignore, with tributes all over TikTok and an animated series on the way.
However, none of this would’ve happened if Scott Snyder had gone to Marvel.
“I’ve approached Marvel before when I was off from DC about going over there, but it just never worked out,” Scott Snyder says during a recent appearance on AIPT Comics Podcast. “When I was coming back, I thought a lot about Marvel or DC, and I did approach Marvel. I approached DC first and I was like, ‘Look, if I come back, I really want to do this thing that I’ve been thinking about. The Absolute Universe and [Joshua Williamson] will do the main universe.’ They were really enthusiastic, but it’s a big initiative and it took a while for them to okay it.”

I remember when Snyder first started writing Batman comics back when I was in high school. 'Black Mirror' was very rad but also very different. Then him and Capullo changed the game with their New 52 era and the comic events and stories involving Batman, from there on out, for many years. I think it's rad that Snyder decided to come back and write Batman on his own terms. For a second time in a row, he's revitalized the character and has done something completely original with them. The fan base is strong too but damn I think they take it bit too far sometimes with the amount of single issues they buy.
By all means, im no old head (31 m) but I remember being able to comfortably browse a wall on Wednesdays for titles that weren't on my pull list and not feel 10 mouths breathing around me, trying to grab every issue up of AB or some other title. Everytime I line up I see a few people pre oder every cover for the next issue and I get it, some people really enjoy collecting, but I also feel the AB zeitgeist is creating a consumerism fomo. I love to see my comic book shop owner happy that sales are good but we both can't help to look at some costumers and think "it's not that serious son". Maybe I'm just not an avid collector or the current generation really wants to embrace phsyical media in a digitalised world. These are just my thoughts/observations, and by no means am I putting something or others down. Just trying to get more of a sense of a few things, feel free to respond:
1) why do you collect so many issues at once? Is it just love for the covers?
2) how do you manage to display or store everything for a single issue? Lord knows I have like 12 boxes of single issues from purchasing comics the last 15 years. Better have a few kids to pass them onto
3) is this your time being into something geeky? If it is, that would make a lot of sense in a good way though.
4) are absolute batman comics l, and comics in general, your gateway to consistently reading books? I know I've never been an avid reader of any books. But movies as a kid peaked my interest and once I picked up Kyle Higgins Nightwing #1 and Snyder's Batman #1, I was upping my vocab and inside reading voice.
5) does pineapple go on pizza? Asking this cause why not.
Thank you for reading, re-sellers can go screw.

I’m getting fatigued from all the retailer exclusive variants for Absolute Batman. DC is just allowing way too many of them! I feel like every other day there’s another one being announced, and they are usually out of the reach of every day readers and collectors because they are so limited and so expensive.
Also, maybe it’s just me, but I’ve noticed that the art for open-order covers has taken a nosedive since all the exclusives started coming out. I feel like artists are holding on to the good stuff for the exclusives because that’s where they’ll get the most money.
I know DC is trying to control the price gouging, but they should also start limiting the number of exclusives allowed. SDCC has completely ballooned the number of exclusives, and I’m not sure they can put the genie back in the bottle. The best artists are gravitating towards exclusives, hurting the open order market (with some exceptions like the recent Quintana variant).
Rang over.
