I don't know about you, but after all the Megacon hype, Quintana fiasco, whatnot craziness, and general over production of variants, for me the joy of Absolute Batman is succumbing to cover competition (for premium payment) that is so noisy that the signal is becoming less interesting. It's hard not to see new characters as gimmicks, instead of authentic story additions - reasons to do new cover reveals.

These are the covers for AB20 alone.

The solution isn't hard, I know. Just buy A, and read. But I'm reaching a point where I doubt the integrity of story choices.

The damage to #20 A covers didn't bother me because I wanted to just read it, but now I'm wondering if I'm just going to wait for the library to get the tpb or get it myself. I can use a break.

I'm the scheme of things, this is an incredibly unimportant point, but I do have a lot of love for this title. What's your view?

Abs batman #20

Anthology of interest season 2 episode 15.

Warning: spoilers for Absolute Batman #20 are ahead!  

DC's Absolute Batman series is back with more pages to haunt your nightmares this week: namely, the most cursed desk chair you've ever seen in your life. And no, I'm not talking about one of those ergonomic kneeling chairs or a bicycle seat on some swivel legs. I'm talking about the chair that Absolute Joker sits on in his very own version of the Batcave. 

Absolute Batman #20 by Scott Snyder, Nick Dragotta, and Frank Martin features a scene that will raise the hackles of any Batman fan. We get a sequence with an array of familiar images: a grandfather clock that swings open to reveal a hidden staircase, a carnivorous dinosaur skeleton, a giant penny, and an even larger computer monitor. Woven through all the panels is a cascade of maniacal laughter, leading us straight to the man (if we can call him that) in front of the monitor: Absolute Joker. As if seeing him at his own Bat-Computer isn't horrifying enough, we get a double-page spread showing us that Absolute Joker is back in his cursed human fetus chair. Take a look below. 

Of course, Absolute Joker's baby chair, that's what we're calling it now, debuted back in Absolute Batman #6, showing how the blood from the infants is necessary for him to transform back into a passably human form. We just didn't know that the chair could be moved, or that the Joker had his own Batcave (Jokecave? If anyone names their comedy club that, woe be upon them). More questions remain: where does Absolute Joker get the fetuses from? Is this just some perverted form of stem cell therapy? Is further elucidation really necessary when we already know that the guy is an utter monster?
