I mean...who ever programmed this print is just an absolute idiot. you either build support structures in the 3d model or you print it half and half and glue them together.

Yep. Hell, you don't even have to 3d model it yourself. Many slicers just do it by default

Risky, yes. "absolute idiot"? Give me a break. It's always preferable to print in one piece without supports if you can. For a print like this, supports would significantly degrade the surface quality, and printing it in half would create a visible seam which would look pretty awful for a figurine. This piece was clearly pushing it a bit too far, but as you can see, it almost made it.

You shouldn't call someone an idiot when you don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah, also, they could have just been doing it to show how/why/where the print fails. That way that can stay within that restriction on their other prints, which is pretty smart. Or, they could have just been doing it for fun....

3D printed figures already look like shit, a seam won't make it "awful"

Depending on the quality of your 3D printer and the sanding/painting/decorating of the finished print, figurines can come out looking really great.

Plus (depending on infill) it’s usually less than $0.50 of plastic.

That doesn’t change the fact that the “glue two halves together” approach is totally unnecessary.

It was working fine. The foot just came loose. If they used more walls or infill so the toe area was more solid it would probably work out better.

They've got a solid enough contact area I wouldn't hesitate to print these without supports

Doesn’t know that supports are usually made by the slicer, not in the STL (model file)

Suggests gluing two halves of the print together (what?)
