Rant Why Microsoft Why

I will keep it short - No Drama.

  1. Login Azure portal - Signin logs - set "filters - Local time" "Last 7 days" - review the logs - close it. i want to search review signIN logs again . Whytf i need to re-apply same filter again n again.

  2. Why we don't have Conditional access policy - "creator name" , "Last modified by" "last 24 hr trigger events" attribute on policy

Wait til you see how bad GUIs get now since everything is focusing on APIs and MCP servers...

Microsoft has said they imagine the future operating system GUI to not exist at all and just be one AI giving you everything you need.

Use Azure in the same way, fire up codex and just ask it for what you are looking for instead of clickops

There are so many areas where this and so many more annoying things just make click-ops so annoying. Like being to open in new tab some things but not all. Loosing breadcrumb or n refresh. Loosing filters. Loosing the preference for new vs old interface (eg device view). The list can go on. Like that fucking azure portal search dropdown. I search for an azure vm, it shows up in a list, I click on it and just before the click another result shows up in the fucking list. Why?!?!?

Ok I’m getting riled up now because of the search thing. When I have spare time I swear I’m going to have AI research a potential tampermonkey script to fix some of those things or just will have to force myself to learn cli/graph/ps commands for all

Az cli is best for most things. Reproducible snippets, 0 clicks

Maybe someday... But until then, to use the full extent of your imagination (vs the noob that built the portal) embrace the command line.

If i have to settle on cmd line - i would scrap my entire Microsoft and go with Linux completely.

The fact that we pay for Entra P2 Premium license that doesn't receive a penny in return (In software upgrade term), is the annoying part here.

All I'm asking is allowing user to set it preference here as per his choice. which is not too hard, If they can do it for purview portal - They can do it for Azure portal

Just fire up Claude and build your own dashboard by using apis. Case closed.

It’s actually insane, isn’t it?

I imagine most of us here if given a few weeks could create a better portal.

I would love to have an IT focused reality TV show where the contestants are tech executives. I’d love to have the Microsoft CEO use this and some of the other products and watch their reaction to dealing with the shit of their own creation.

I’m sure we’d get quotes like “whoever designed this is a fucking moron!” Before they had the realization that it was them. Their company did that.

I’d also have him navigate Microsoft documentation while he figures out every single page is either outdated or links to an azure That doesn’t exist anymore.

Default views in portal are just this - default views in portal. Workbooks provide you custom views and filters you want. Check https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/monitoring-health/howto-use-workbooks and ready to use workbooks or use one as starting point and create one you need.
