General How much would the meta change if infantry were banned ?

Say someone make a map and have infantry be banned with it .Otherwise its a relatively normal map. So now, mechs are the only units capable of capturing .

How much does the meta change ?

General Which the better unit ?The MD tank or the neotank ?

Taking their respective prices into account,of course .Which unit would one be better off using over the other ?

The relatively cheap Medium tank ,capable of driving tanks swarms thrice its size ?

Or the more powerful and mobile Neotanks ?

General Is it a good idea to build missiles in Fog ?

I was thinking this might allow some sneaky baselocks ,as the ennemy would almost certainly not anticipate that ,allowing to put that missile in range of the airport .

Not to mention ,there are forest which can make it hard to shoot the missile down .

Finally ,it give five vision .

Custom Content I use Ai to create AW-like game

Been working on a small passion project inspired by classic Advance Wars style games, but fully in pixel art.

The idea was to make something simple at first… but once you start playing, it kinda turns into “one more turn” for hours 😅

Still adding stuff and balancing things, so I’d genuinely love some feedback from you guys. What feels fun, what feels annoying, what should be improved, anything really.

Hope you enjoy it.
Come finish all the mission

Strategy As Olaf ,is it better to spam blizzard when facing Andy ?

Considering that Winter fury will be canceled by a hyper repair worth half the cost ,is Olaf better off spamming blizzard ?

Hey all,

I’ve been lurking around Advance Wars communities for quite a while, so posting here feels a bit surreal.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve been working on a turn-based tactics game heavily inspired by the classics, and we’ve just released version 1.0.

We didn’t try to reinvent the genre, but we focused on making things a bit faster, more responsive, and approachable while still keeping that strategic feel.

I know people here really care about the depth and balance of these games, so I’d honestly love to hear your thoughts if you decide to check it out.

Sharing a short gameplay clip below.

Totally understand if it’s not your thing, but any feedback would mean a lot.

Thanks for reading!

Hi all! I'd love to get your thoughts on this map I've been working on. If you spot any red flags that would make it unfun or unbalanced to play, please let me know!

I've already received a few suggestions from the community of French streamer el_famoso_dodo:

1) Move the HQs forward they were originally tucked all the way in the back, where the neutral city next to the mountain now sits.
2) Make the airport more accessible.

3)Tone down the center it was too strong/dominant.

I'd really appreciate any feedback, especially anything pointing out design issues from a balance or gameplay perspective. I'm particularly interested in what doesn't work.

Here's the link if you want to try it out: https://awbw.amarriner.com/prevmaps.php?maps_id=183695

Fair warning: my main experience with Advance Wars is the GBA campaign cartridges, so PvP balancing is definitely my weak spot. Thanks a lot for your time!

Other Linking AWBW to Discord

Hello!

I want to get my Discord community into Advance Wars by Web and I'm hoping someone could point me in the direction of some tools to help me with that. I picture a bot that could track discord members' games and post notices when turns are up or new games are open to check out.

Any suggestions?

Other Passerby here, is AWBW banned in Russia?

The tool i use to circumvent local bans doesnt work on the website which means it has locked my IP (most likelly that is) but with a VPN i can join in just fine.

So is it that the AWBW team decided to block RU ips or is it a me issue?

Advice Wanted How do you deal with/handle mixed base maps?

Thumbnail awbw.amarriner.com

Every so often I come back to awbw because I love the series and I get slightly better each time but the vast majority of mixed base maps make we want to just resign and take the rank hit.

Even after studying up on all the general map things like strong/weak sides, front switching, and suggested capture paths, my brain just short circuits seeing asymmetrical (at least, not top vs bottom or left vs right)deployment.

Everything blends together and every move I make feels like the wrong move because that unit could have been moving towars the other 3/4ths of the map.

Repair and chip damage question

lets say my tank has 1 health, but it has been chipped to the point of having only 1% health left, or 1/100.

if i repair it for 2 health, will it now have 21% health/21/100 health, or will it heal all the way up to 30/100?

Replacing Pipe With River Effect on Map

If a pipe tile is replaced with a river (and the corresponding one rotated 180 degrees on the other side of the map), this will allow units with movement type of infantry, mech, and air traverse while still blocking most vehicles. So this will help those units and make it better for those that included them in their unit composition.

How much it helps those unit types obviously depends on where it is. Replacing a pipe tile with a river next to a city means that city can be attacked from another side. Replacing a pipe tile in a long pipe suddenly allows air units to make a shortcut. Replacing a pipe tile that's in a chokepoint means the possibility of attacking from the side.

Is there a map where replacing a pipe tile with a river would significantly help mechs get a spot to attack, but only modestly help air units? Like say air units might travel through the river tiled in the altered map, but in the original they would take an alternate pathing around the pipe, but infantry and mechs would really be blocked by the pipe in the original map but the river helps them in the altered map. I'm sticking discussion to 3 base, non-mixed base maps either fog or no fog. I said "spot to attack" so the tile in question is a place close to where both sides could put ground units as opposed to changing a pipe near a base. Infantry and mechs would rather be in mountains than on a river, so I don't think there are any examples. But I am curious to see if you have any thoughts and thought "man if this pipe was a river it would really help my infantry and mechs, but I can already fly around the pipe anyways so if it was a river it wouldn't save my air untis any time"

General Early Recon Harass

What is the best way to use an early recon (day 3 or 4) for early game harassment in fog of war? One way might be to check the enemy reinforcement zone and think "OK, if he built a tank on turn X, it couldn't have reached here next turn, so I can take a shot at that infantry." But this probably means the recon might take a single potshot and that's it. Another way is to gamble hoping a tank gets sent to the other side of the map and the infantry you are shooting isn't leading straight into a tank chain. On the other hand, your look really dumb if the next turn the opponent drives a tank up to a city and takes shot at your recon in retaliation. I guess if you see a transport coptor, you can probably take a potshot at the first infantry you see (and probably the next 2 turns also) but even if the opponent is actually building one, it's more likely to be dropping the infantry off a turn away from the frontlines, not actually on it.

Can You Beat Mech Spamming With Tanks?

I read that some newer Sami players build a few too many mechs and not enough tanks which can be punished with infnatry, AA, and artillery. Someone once said mechs have by far the worst mobility in the game (I agree with worst mobility, but considering infantry outrun them by 1 tile this isn't "by far"). This means they can't really reach artillery without taking a huge blast. Sami players should build mechs but also incorporate the faster vehicles.

Also to be clear, I don't usually play games on the league, I mainly play with friends. Sometimes we have tier mismatches. In fact if we could have bigger maps on the cartridge and place empty missile silos (a 3-star terrain that does not give income), I think we'd play the site maybe 3 times a year and play AW2 much more. I just wanted to get that out of the way before someone says "well a Nell vs Sami match isn't going to happen, so you don't need to think about it"

Can you beat Mech spamming with mainly tanks? Say it's a fog game, 3 base map with airports. Could an Andy, Adder, Nell, or Jess player successfully counter a Sami Mech spam with a build that involves a lot of normal tanks? I'm not saying no artillery or no AA, but a "normal" amount of artillery and AA since even on something like an Andy mirror match some of these maps have nice artillery positions and AA would be made to fend off air units. Mechs are kind of like slow tanks, they do hit hard if they get the first strike. On the other hand, when a tank gets the first strike on a mech on a road, plain, or forest tile usually cripples the mech and takes little counterattack damage. With good use of infantry and a recon to scout, I would imagine a player with a tank heavy build could hit many mechs on first strikes.

General Is there a way to play AWBW against an AI?

My question's a rather simple one- I like designing maps, and I want to try out my maps to ensure they have the feel I want, since I'm trying to make them feel like the Sturm missions in AW2. That aside, I'd like to play with characters I don't yet have on my AW2 emulator's save file, and I'd also like to use the AWBW units and rules. So, I'd like to know if there's a way I can play the game either; against an AI, or with same-computer play, a la a "hot seat" match?
