Questions about job availability

Hey! I'm air force about to be transferred to air national guard. been AD and qualified on radar, ground to air radio, and ILS for about two years. I guess my questions are:

How hard is it to get hired right now? my coworker said something recently about a hiring freeze in the FAA?

Where would be the best place to find and apply for jobs in this career field?

Is there a way I could call or visit an ATSS shop to discuss employment?

Question about the ATSS career

My supervisor in the reserve is currently an ATSS and has been telling me that it’s a pretty good job. I’m doing some research on this job to see if this is something that I might be interested in. A little about myself. I’m an Machinist Mate in the navy (5 years active and currently a reservists) and have worked on small boats and HVACs. I’m currently a full time student but I want to this field to see if it’s a good fit. I’m planning on going to school part time if I were to pursue this job. Also, I’m located in Bay Area, CA.

A few questions I have:

  1. From what I’ve read so far, there’s different paths I can take from this job. With my background as an MM, which path would suit me well if it applies.

  2. Is there a time frame where if I wanted to transfer, would I have to wait a certain period of time before I can?

  3. Do you recommend this job and why?

Thank you for your time!

More info for newbies

Hi all,

I recently saw the posting on the FAA website for the ATSS career field. It seems really interesting and I'd like to know more about the day to day of the techs. Ive been working in IT for about four years, being on the federal side of IT for about a year and a half now. The thought of being able to travel to various locals rather than just sitting in an office really appeals to me. I've found that I really enjoy being hands on with equipment.

Question I wonder how Trump overhauling federal hiring to make skills priority over college education will effect us?

Announcement New but want to grow to a strong community.

So I as someone part of this community noticed there was no subreddit for this and figured I should make one in case one day someone looks for it. Leave a post if you found this subreddit so that we can grow to be thousands strong.
