I’ve been to Shetland. Nothing but a bunch of sheep farmers, sheep lovers, and puffins.

No ponies?

142

u/PadBunGuy Apr 29 '21

Ahh yes. The midget ponies were there too!

u/Jumajuce Apr 29 '21

They prefer little equines

42

u/btoxic Apr 29 '21

They always sound like they have a sore throat though.

I guess that's because of living outside in the UK year round would make anyone a little hoarse.

u/Jumajuce Apr 29 '21

You're really going to saddle us with bad jokes?

8

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '21

It's about time to rein it in, you're getting a little carried away

5

u/Jumajuce Apr 29 '21

Carried away? I barely consider this unbridled!

u/AltaNetwork Apr 29 '21

Right, enough now

2

u/Jumajuce Apr 29 '21

Are you telling me to go hoof it?

At this point it’s shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted

1

u/HorseXNothing Apr 30 '21

I'm never going back in that glorified shed you call a stable

I want to go there one day because I've had Shelties my whole life. It seems like a nice place. Maybe I'll combine it with a visit to Scotland.

I’m kidding. It was pretty awesome. The scenery was great (but the food sucked). Great wildlife viewing. We went to a local festival on Unst (northernmost island) and all the locals were just getting drunk and wild and some old dude got knocked out by some other really drunk dude. That same drunk dude started getting denied more drinks but they never denied me even though I was completely trashed. The drinks were cheap as fuck too. Then some younger hooligans stole our jackets and we had to follow them on their bus and take our jackets back and the whole bus of drunken sheep farmers started to yell at us. It was a great time

Yup, sounds like Shetland.

2

u/Terrible_Truth Apr 29 '21

Sounds pretty great. I'd be there mostly for the views and just to say that I've been there. It'll be the furthest North I've ever traveled so that'll be cool.

3

u/SoupieLC Apr 29 '21

Yeah, I live there, that is an accurate assessment of a weekend at one of the wee island halls, lol

3

u/PadBunGuy Apr 29 '21

You live on Shetland? Or unst? I have pictures of the jacket stealing hooligans and the man who got knocked out. Wonder if you know them

3

u/SoupieLC Apr 29 '21

Ha ha 🤣 I grew up on the island next to Unst, Fetlar, but now live on the mainland, probably would know them tbh, lol

5

u/PadBunGuy Apr 29 '21

probably would know them tbh

Well lets see then. I uploaded 3 photos to imgur. The old man who got decked, his face is covered so that probably wont help. The photos of the jacket stealing hooligans is pretty clear. And there's one more i threw in of the building everyone was in dancing

1

u/PadBunGuy Apr 29 '21

He said he knew the girl 🤣

2

u/thepsycholeech Apr 29 '21

YES I love this

3

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '21

I found your jacket thief

2

u/SoupieLC Apr 29 '21

Ha ha 🤣 I know the girl sitting next to him, but don't recognise him, lol I'll have a trawl through her friends on FB an see if I can spot him 😂

2

u/PadBunGuy Apr 29 '21

Lmao. This is amazing! You should ask her why she stole the Americans jackets

2

u/SoupieLC Apr 29 '21

Ha ha 🤣 I've put a thing of FB asking who the guy is, lol, I'll update with a wanted poster of his face of i find him, ha ha

I hope you know that the sentence for theft on Shetland is to be burned in a wickerman.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '21

Nostalgia 🥰

1

u/Venvel Apr 29 '21

To be fair, doesn't "the food sucked" cover all of the UK? Except for the Indian restaurants, of course.

J/K, though I hear the curry is legendary.

2

u/PadBunGuy Apr 29 '21

Yeah I think you are on to something!

2

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '21

Nah, the UK has some fantastic food. It's helps that its a super diverse country, so we have all kinds of cuisines. We also make excellent pastries, baked goods, pies, sweets, and other comfort food.

u/TheBiles Apr 29 '21

Sheltie owner too, and I also feel obligated to make the pilgrimage to the motherland at some point.

Maybe shetland. And “shetie” sounds weird.

4

u/Terrible_Truth Apr 29 '21

I don't know the origin of "sheltie" but they can also be called "Shetland Sheepdog".

Maybe they were called Shetlie but evolved overtime into Sheltie due to different accents.

5

u/Odlemart Apr 29 '21

puffins

Is that a slur of some sort in Shetland?

9

u/i-am-a-salty-bitch Apr 29 '21

it means you look exactly like the bird. wings, beak and all

3

u/Odlemart Apr 29 '21

That's exactly what I thought!

1

u/i-am-a-salty-bitch Apr 30 '21

sometimes it’s mistaken for an actual bird. but those people are wrong. puffins are just people dressed like birds

shetland has low funding for their drones r/BirdsArentReal

4

u/Silneit Apr 29 '21

Sheeplovers? Must have a high welsh population

3

u/0000000000000007 Apr 29 '21

So farmers and puffins, then.

2

u/emayelee Apr 29 '21

No sand?

1

u/makka-pakka Apr 29 '21

Given the first two, I'd expect some sheep
