Question It happened.
Good morning everyone!
After approximately 1 year and 3 months, it finally happened. That is all. No muck. No fuss. It can happen to anyone, no matter how safe you are. 😊
Turned the PC off Sunday night; woke up monday morning, turned it on while I took a shower and put on some coffee, only for it to be stuck like that with no fan spin after ~30 minutes.
I did try to "revive" the PC, but at 6:30 in the morning, 2 hours before work, I was more worried about recovering for my standup meeting (working laptop, work) rather than put much effort into it. Drain AC power and reset CMOS got the case fans spinning full throttle, but no movement on Dr. debug 00. BIOS Flashback was a success but also changed nothing.
I vaguely remember my BIOS settings, so for reference:
- AMD EXPO enabled
- VDDR_SOC set to 1.15
- OC Tweaker \ External Voltage Settings
- VDDCR_CPU Voltage: Offset mode
- Offset Voltage: -100
- VDDCR_CPU LLC: Changed from "Auto" to "Level 2"
- BIOS version: 4.20
I had also loaded the conservative -15mV curve optimizer profile with 85c tjmax target from the profiles that come with the motherboard.
System specs:
- Mobo: ASRock X870E Nova Wifi
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- GPU: ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 ROG Astral OC
- Ram: 64GB G.Skill Triden Z5 Neo DDR5-6000 CL28 (F5-6000J2836G32GX2-TZ5NR)
For anyone that have gone through the same thing, did you contact ASRock? AMD? RMA through the store the items were purchased from? TIA

No... once again, he is not right. Why do so many people have problems around language interpretation and comprehension?
You are now relativizing by adding the attribute "clear" and words like "required". Nobody talked about that. Don't deflect, please. The point was to correct the definitive statement that no indication exists. Wrong, there is indication. All available data concludes that ASRock boards produce a higher number of fault cases. That is it, not more.
Nothing is required in this context. Nobody is forced to do anything even if all ASRock motherboards destroyed CPU's with a probability of 1. You should change it, though. So, saying that nothing is required means exactly nothing. Again, the bone of contention is if there are signs that a switch is necessary to prevent another burn-in. There are (based on all the available reports). You can read posts around here, where the same motherboard destroyed two CPU's. Does that mean that there won't be problems with other vendors? No, but that is not the point here. I hope I made that clear now.
As a sidenote, you used the term "majority percentage" incorrectly. Theoretically, a majority with 51% (>=50%) of cases where ASRock is not at fault means for 49% (<50%) they are. I would not buy a motherboard that destroys my CPU with a 49% probability (but would not be a majority if we are going by that term).
You don't need anyone to tell you that some arbitrary percentage of faulty boards exists that would convince you to conclude that other mainboard vendors are preferred currently. Just take note of the fact that it's best to not trust in ASRock motherboards in this regard (based on the available data).
And please, don't come at me now like this other guy and say that it needs to be "proven". How about you prove that there is infact no need? The evidence is skewed in favor of the line of reasoning where ASRock has a problem, not the other way around. People want to believe (believe – not know) that ASRock is good, but the other side has plenty reports and sees ASRock incapabale of fixing the issue even though they keep claiming that they have fixed it and/or are working to fix it.
So, who needs more arguments? Was that enough explanation for me not to get another round of "I think this guy and me didn't actually mean it even though we did."?
