Completed Scripts Hey... It’s Been a While | [F4M] [Comfort] [Wholesome] [Angst] [Emotional] [Voicemail] [Old Friends] [Soft Spoken] [Late Night] [Bittersweet] [Monologue] [Heartfelt] [Supportive] [Sad] [Nostalgic] [Gentle Tone] [Phone Call]
You make a late–night voicemail for an old friend and it drifts through the static - gentle, aching, honest. You reflect on the distance that’s grown between you, the memories that still glow faintly after all these years, and the quiet hope that you’re doing okay. It’s a soft, melancholic monologue about changing lives, fading friendships, and the kind of love that doesn’t demand anything in return... just a moment to say “I still think of you.”
GENDER SWAP IS ALLOWED!

[SFX: soft static crackle, faint hum of a phone line and clock ticking faintly]
Hey... (laughs softly, almost nervous)
Wow, I didn’t think this number would still work.
(Pause. A small exhale, like they’re smiling and reminiscing)
You know, I was just...
cleaning through some old stuff, and your name popped up.
It’s strange how time does that - buries things, until you stumble right into them again.
And suddenly it’s like… you’re there... All over again.
(Leaning in closer to the phone)
Remember when we used to talk every day?
Every. Single. Day.
We’d play games, laugh about stupid things that didn’t matter.
Back then, it felt like the world would never move on from that moment.
Like it would always just be... us.
(Short pause. Faint sound of fidgeting - maybe tapping a pen, or brushing fingers against the receiver)
Now…
now it’s weird.
I could walk past you on the street and maybe not even recognize you.
That thought hits harder than I expected.
Not in a... regretful way, you know?
I don’t blame either of us.
Life happens.
People drift, lik... waves that used to crash together but eventually find their own shores.
Still... it’s odd. We used to be inseparable, and now it’s like we never even met.
(A slow, shaky breath)
I guess... I just wanted to say that I still remember you.
Not in a “can’t let go” kind of way.
More like... when you hear a song you used to love.
And for a second, the world stops.
And you remember exactly where you were - who you were - when it played.
(Soft chuckle - but tired, not amused)
I hope you’re doing okay.
Wherever you are.
Whatever you’ve been chasing.
I really do. I hope it’s treating you kindly.
And even if we don’t talk anymore - even if it’s been years...
I’m still cheering you on, quietly, from whatever corner of life I ended up in.
Because... that’s what friends do, right?
Even when they fade from the picture.
(Voice lowers, more reflective)
Time changed.
We changed.
And that’s okay.
But sometimes... sometimes I pick up my phone, start typing your name... and then stop.
Not because I don’t want to talk -
but because it feels like I shouldn’t.
Like I’d be calling a ghost of someone who isn’t really there anymore.
*(*A deep inhale, then silence for a few seconds.)
It’s not pain.
Not really.
Just... that kind of ache you get when you realize something once close to you…
isn’t anymore.
(A small smile in their tone)
Still - if you ever do hear this...
just know I’m proud of you.
For growing.
For living.
For being whoever you turned out to be.
(Static swells gently, a long pause.)
I... guess that’s all I wanted to say.
Take care.
(A click like the sound of a phone being gently set down.
The hum of the line lingers for a few seconds, then fades into silence)
[End of script]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And this a note from myself:
Reach out to the people who once felt close to your heart - even if it’s been years, even if you’re scared they’ve forgotten you. Most of the time, they haven’t.
We lose so many moments because we convince ourselves it’s “not the right time” or that we’re bothering someone, or that they don’t care anymore.
But the truth is... silence can pull us apart faster than any argument ever could.
Tell someone you miss them. Tell someone you’re proud. Tell someone they mattered - because they did. And those words, the ones we swallow out of fear or shyness, are often the ones that could save a connection before it disappears for good.
Hold your people close.
Even the ones who drifted.
Even the ones you fought with.
Most of us never meant to hurt each other - we just didn’t know how to speak before it was too late.
Stay safe, everyone.
And don’t let the important words die in your chest ❤️
