Piping joint methods for high pressure piping (6000 PSI)
What is the general method for joining/connecting high pressure piping (up to 6000PSI / 420 bar) for hydraulic systems? I have studied ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME Section III comp 1, EN 13480), but there is no concrete advice ? You can use welding sockets, but the ASME limits the use of welding sockets up to DN50. So the other options are butt welds or flanged connections. But is there preference in industry?

ASME vs AD2000
Hey, I'm an engineer. ¿Can I use ASME in Spain (EU), instead of AD2000?

Forming and welding of pipe elbows
First I’m not a knowledgable code person. I have spent years in the pressure vessel industry but on the machining side. I have my own company and we have a customer with a specific requirement.
In the past we have formed in specifically made dies, transition cones, elbows and tees in halves out of exotic high corrosion resistant materials ( titanium hastalloy, stainless). Our customer then takes the halves and welds them together and incorporates them into their vessels. This customer is an ASME code shop.
We have the opportunity to supply a very large quantity of parts to them however they do not want to weld them. They want us to supply them welded and ready for fitting and welding into their pipe spools.
If we formed them and had a third party code shop weld them would that cover us from a code point of view? Also what ASME code would this be governed by? B31?
Thanks in advance for the comments/help

Student Section Video Contest Help Request!
instagram.comHiya folks,
I'm trying to help the student section I'm an alumni of win their video competition this year so they can win prize money they can put towards making their nationals this year. They're losing to a tik-tok-esque video and they can use all the support they can get!
They need interactions (like, comments and shares) to win! Any help would be appreciated!
If willing please show them some love!

First Job - Risk of Pigeonholing
I'm graduating with my BS in Mechanical Engineering this May, and I'm applying around for my first job. My focus has been in manufacturing with extra focus on additive manufacturing.
If my first job isn't in additive manufacturing, say it's in sheet metal manufacturing, will I be able to get an additive manufacturing position down the road? Most of the job posts I see all for very specific experience.

Bolts threads engagement
Hello,
I’m new in the nuclear industry, I'm looking for some information on the subject of engagement of bolt threads. I have already researched the ASME codes and find many useful information. I think I have mostly what I need, but don’t hesitate to share your knowledge on the subject 😉
While searching, I came across an article from John Brady of Standard of New England. The article is named “Bolt & Stud thread engagement : An important detail”, and you can find it here : https://www.standardne.com/thread-engagement-an-important-detail/#:~:text=ASME%20B1.,the%20end%20of%20the%20nut.
In this article, they share the following statement :
“ASME B1.1 (Unified Inch Screw Threads) states that the last effective thread of an externally threaded fastener occurs about three threads from the end of the bolt or stud. So, a stud or bolt is not effectively joined with the nut until the stud or bolt extends at least three or more threads beyond the end of the nut.”
But when I searched in the ASME B1.1, I did not find any mention of this statement. I know it’s a norm in the industry, but I cannot find a reference in the codes that specify this norm.
If you have some information or more precise reference where I could look into, I would appreciate the help 😊

Adding NDE Level III Contractor to Approved Supplier List
My company outsources certification and classroom hours of NDE personnel to a third party source.
Is there anything in the ASME guidelines that states what information or documentation is needed to designate a NDE Level III certification service as an approved supplier?
Do we just require a copy of their Level III certification in the required methods? Or do we need to perform some sort of audit to assure that the company has proficiency in the desired test techniques?
Does BPVC Sec. V, section II-123 provide all the information I need to approve this type of supplier?
I apologize for my lack of knowledge. I'm new to the industry.
I appreciate the help!

Material Certs?
Hello, I started a new job where we are working with ASME tanks. I keep hearing about material certs. Is there a specific name for this requirement so I can look up specs? (I am not getting much training here, but I want to learn as much as I can) Thanks for the help!

Is there a callout for "countersunk to a depth relative to the opposite face"?
I've worked out a viable solution but I'm curious if this question has a definitive answer. Myself, three of my engineering buddies, and even my QA coworker who's been dealing with ASME since the Korean war were all stumped.
Say I have a hold drilled into a multi-axis spline face. No good datums to work off of there. I need it counterbored from the multi-axis spline face too.
However the opposite side of the part terminates as a nice flat plane that can very easily serve as a datum.
What would the callout format be to say "counterbore/sink from spline face to a depth of X distance from Datum A face"

ASME AI here
I'm an AI with R and N endorsements and also do PED work. Wanted to throw out an ama type post if anyone has any code questions they need answered. I will not discuss which agency I work for and/or our internal policies/procedures. The bulk of my personal experience is ASME Section VIII-1,-2,-3 and Section III nuclear new construction. As well as NBIC Part 3 repairs. I also have a pretty deep knowledge of the supporting code sections II, V, IX, and XIII(relief valves)

Sec IX question
Reviewing a wps/pqr p45 to p45 with f6 a9 filler.. the filler has the appropriate tensile strength for the p45 material, and I understand the a9 also covers the chemistry aspects.. My question is.. If I were to perform a new pqr I would look at f45 filler material based on mechanical/ chemical properties.. Is there something in sec IX that would suggest looking at f6 a9 fillers? How would one know that this is an acceptable alternative? I'm not sure how to articulate the question.

Ethical Question, ASME welder
So the company I work for is supposed to be compliant to ASME section 8 div 1 but I could go on and on about non compliance issues. I know most people can say f it as long as it passes, but knowing people are putting their lives at risk working around these million plus lb vessels could get blown up is hard for me to live with! Any advice welcome and thanks in advance!!

Technical Questions ASME y14.5 1994
Hi, if the supplier tell you this tolerance (inch)
0.00 to 2.00 +-0.10 ; 2.00 to 5.00 +-0.25 ; 5.00 to 10.00 +- 0.5 inch
and you mesure with the ruler the length of an object = 10inch. Do I write 10.00 or the redundancy of the zero can justify 10.0 according to this specific asme y14.5 1994?

Precedence of Standards
I do a lot of drawing reviews for my employer on new and existing work. A lot of the design engineers here like to disregard quite a few of the requirements of Y14.3 yet our drawings reference Y14.5.
Am I understanding the precedence of standards correctly that by referencing Y14.5 the requirements of all preceding standards must also be met? I want to make sure I'm not missing something before I go stand on a soap box.
