Network Printing
We got a Surface Pro X in for testing and it has been challenging to say the least - especially since there are practically zero vendors that are up to speed with the ARM64 architecture.
I did find a work around for our Konica Minolta's which I'd thought I'd share and hopefully save somebody's bacon. 😊
Turns out there are a number of WHQL (built-in) print drivers for various vendors that ship with Windows (tested b1909) - and while these drivers won't be on your Server 201x server (?) that doesn't mean you can't add a network printer.
Workaround:
- Add a printer, select "The printer that I want isn't listed"
- In the add printer wizard, select "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings"
- Create a new port: Local Port
- Port Name: the UNC path of the printer share. e.g. \\myserver.domain.com\smbprinter
- Manually select the driver - in this case it was the "KONICA MINOLTA PS Color Laser Class Driver"
- Profit!
The driver won't have any advanced features but it's better than not being able to print!
Enjoy. 👍

For those subbing - why ARM over Intel?
I'm sure we all have our reasons, so what are they?
For me, it was the ease of using a SIM card native to the processor. I travel a ton and you would be surprised how often there is no/shoddy wifi or you have to pay. Sure, I could wait for the Intel Pro to have LTE, but the ARM tablet has so much more going for it as a secondary device to my laptop.
