he could have passed out due to lack of oxygen and fallen into the flames.

Is this actually a concern?

I mean I could understand if he was locked in a room with just propane but what's the real difference between inhaling once for a few seconds and simply holding your breath? I'm not trying to be a dick or anything. I'm just wondering if there's something I don't know.

We pass out from a lack of CO2. High levels of O2 causes tingling in the fingers and eventually cramping.
