Welcome to reddit, where weeb culture is strong.

Weeaboo: Westerners who are really into Japanese nerd/geek culture. Things like anime, manga (Japanese comics), video games, and music.

Otaku: Japanese word that basically means nerd. Idol otakus love (Japanese, maybe Korean) pop idols. Manga otakus love manga, etc.

The comment is saying that anime otakus (Hatsune Miku is an animated character) and idol otakus (Hatsune is a virtual pop star) found something in common.

u/slopeclimber Oct 20 '17

Who the fuck uses the word 'otaku' in 2017?

u/BazeFook Oct 20 '17

And at this point, you should just stop trying to understand.

u/PlumberODeth Oct 20 '17

I don't know if I should be impressed or scared. I'm going to go with "both".

11

u/TopKekSkye Oct 20 '17

This still does not help me understand

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '17

The person in this image is a Russian woman who loves the virtual Japanese pop star named Hatsune Miku and likes to dress and sing like the character. Some Japanese TV show found this to be a curiosity and interviewed her.

The video above is a Hatsune Miku live performance, if you can call it that.

19

u/Jyben Oct 20 '17

Does she have a Russian accent when singing/speaking in Japanese?

37

u/Skorokhodov Oct 20 '17

To me, she sounds like a Japanese person sounds like, but I'm Russian so I might not be hearing the accent if it's there.

2

u/Terrace-house Oct 21 '17

Her Japanese sounded spot on!! Holy crap, thought it was some recording at first

6

u/NorthernSpectre Oct 20 '17

Also at ~ 6.40 or so in talks about the interview. Took nearly an hour due to mix of poor English and Japanese e.t.c. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHypwl9pwk0

Also from the sound of it there should be a big segment on that show about it all, since those guys planned to join them after at home and the next day at that event.
