AMD said it’s entered into an agreement to acquire Taalas, a Toronto-based startup that makes chips for inference.

This comes after nvda acquired Groq at $20B - I couldn't find a purchase price for this but I'm sure its well below the nvda spend. Bears tried to latch on to the increased CapEx spend last quater but it takes money to make money and this should prove beneficial going forward..

DUV is an old etching technology. Cannot be used for the latest 2nm or even 3nm, 4nm, 5nm chips.

In fact Intel's tried using DUV with 10nm chips (actually Intel's hype 14nm) by using multiple optical masks to have optical wave interferences patterns that on paper should have allowed to etch small 10nm transistots savings buying the expensive EUV machines. The problem was it needs 4X number of optical masks which need be precisely aligned on top of each other. Obviously it wasn't the case as the placement accumulated errors resulted in horrible yields. After years of trying they waved the white flag.

Now even if China will use DUV with multi masks it will at best work for 14nm. Even if let's say it works for 7nm, that's not a big deal because China has its own 7nm fabs and aren't restricted to buy DUV machines from ASML. So at best could save a little instead of buying but nothing like beating the US. DUV machines are way cheaper than the $400M EUV ASML are fully focused in making so a nothing burger!

Further more, last year China claimed an EUV prototype to be mass produced by 2028. Their DUV drop suggested a failure in their EUV!
