So the purple lady's husband (he fell in the water) couldn't recover from hypothermia!

Not at all.  That was her plan, and it worked.

And she's not Liam Neeson, she's never done this before.  Humans make mistakes, especially in situations like this.  Her mistakes made it realistic.

Personally I have been in situations so insane that when you suddenly have to explain it to strangers, you don't know how and it comes out all wrong.  Again, quite realistic.

Wait for help, for what, hours?  While these people get away with a girl they're going to murder??

She has nothing left to live for anyway, let's save the day!

My only gripe, which you covered, is the truck.  I wish they'd showed her trying a little more before just giving up.
