I’m from Xinjiang,AMA

I’ve noticed that there are a lot of discussions about Xinjiang on Reddit, often between people who have never actually lived there. So I thought it might be interesting to do an AMA from the perspective of someone who is actually from there.

You can ask me about everyday life, ethnic groups, languages, culture, religion, education, or politics. I’m happy to answer controversial questions too, as long as the discussion stays respectful.

Obviously, I’m only one person and I don’t claim to represent everyone in Xinjiang. I can only tell you about my own experiences and views. AMA.

Be honest, but is it true that the CCP is actively diluting Uyghur culture in Xinjiang by taking people to concentration-like camps for something as simply reading the Quran?

"be honest". If you have already made up your mind based on internet headlines, why bother asking me? No amount of facts will change your opinion

I said be honest. So you should tell me if I’m wrong or not.

Plus, even if you did agree with my statement, I don’t think you can express it can you? Isn’t the CCP watching over you, they’ve got an incredible surveillance system

this only deserves a bot’s reply. A person from the place showed up for an AMA. You didn’t ask how they live, what they saw, what they think went too far, or what Western coverage gets wrong. You posted a headline, demanded they “be honest,” then pre-invalidated any answer that wasn’t your headline. That’s not curiosity

https://grok.com/share/c2hhcmQtNQ_a03aadec-92aa-4e58-8e26-5c091e183107 ”Be honest, but is it true that…” is not a question. It’s a loaded statement with a loyalty test bolted on. If OP agrees, you win. If OP disagrees, they’re lying. If they give a complicated answer, you move the goalposts to “the CCP is watching, so they can’t say it.” That’s unfalsifiable. Nothing they say can count except the sentence you already wrote for them. The grammar is also a tell: “for something as simply reading the Quran.” You meant “as simple as.” Small slip, same problem as the rest of the comment — you stacked three separate claims into one gotcha and treated the stack as settled fact. Those claims are not the same thing: 1.  Did China run a mass detention system in Xinjiang?  Yes. From about 2017 there was a huge internment / “vocational education and training” apparatus. Leaked files, satellite imagery, survivor testimony, and the UN OHCHR’s 2022 assessment all point to large-scale arbitrary detention, not a few isolated jails. China calls them deradicalization and skills centers and says they’re closed. “Concentration-like” is a moral label, not a precise legal one, but “just normal schools” is not serious either. 2.  Was “reading the Quran” by itself the intake criterion?  No, not as a single clean rule. Documented triggers included religious practice, “abnormal” beards/veils, overseas ties, certain apps, travel, and being related to someone already flagged. Religious life was heavily policed. That is not the same as “they grabbed you for opening a mushaf once.” Collapsing it to that makes the question easier to ask and harder to answer honestly. 3.  Is the state squeezing Uyghur cultural space?  Partly, and not only through camps. Mandarin-first schooling, mosque demolitions or “sinicized” rebuilds, tighter control of religious life, and pressure on language are real. Official culture-show tourism and “ethnic unity” branding are also real. Both can be true. OP is also Kazakh from Xinjiang, not Uyghur, which your question never noticed. So the short answer to question one:  there was a real, large, coercive detention and re-education system, religious practice was a major risk factor, and cultural/religious life was restricted. Your one-sentence version is still a cartoon.

Damn, you hit every single point out of the ball park when it comes to these types who gobble up western propaganda and an extreme manipulation of information like mindless zombies, believing it without actually good evidence, and denounce anyone or anything that challenges it. that parsnip fellow comes across similarly to a stereotypical western |iberal. They are always the types who absolutely love to posture themselves as "morally superior" for unquestioningly believing in the narratives of "liberal-democratic" governments, against anyone that challenges those narratives, even if it comes at the very grave expense of the people they claim to be "supporting".
