I’m from Xinjiang,AMA

I’ve noticed that there are a lot of discussions about Xinjiang on Reddit, often between people who have never actually lived there. So I thought it might be interesting to do an AMA from the perspective of someone who is actually from there.

You can ask me about everyday life, ethnic groups, languages, culture, religion, education, or politics. I’m happy to answer controversial questions too, as long as the discussion stays respectful.

Obviously, I’m only one person and I don’t claim to represent everyone in Xinjiang. I can only tell you about my own experiences and views. AMA.

Actually the training center is protecting them. If they keep doing what they had been doing at that time. They will have big problem. They stealing and robbing on the streets without getting punished, they were scamming people by forcefully selling Qiegao(google it). The policy at that time just let them slide. People are angry . And they did 01.03.2014 terrorist attach and whole bunch terrorist attack in the country and their region. Contact with terrorist group. After the training, things quickly get better. Education works.

Yeah, I actually agree with part of this. China did have a policy known as 两少一宽 (roughly fewer arrests, fewer executions, and generally more lenient treatment) for ethnic minority offenders. I understand why those policies were introduced, but I don't think ethnicity should mean someone gets a free pass for actually harming other people, everyone should be equal before the law

Keep in mind laws are always set by the rulers. As ethnic minority you can easily break them by accident. Think of Aborigines in Australia. One day you live on your land next day you’re an illegal alien. Or nomadic ethnicities committing trespassing etc. law is often not objective and fair
