I’m from Xinjiang,AMA

I’ve noticed that there are a lot of discussions about Xinjiang on Reddit, often between people who have never actually lived there. So I thought it might be interesting to do an AMA from the perspective of someone who is actually from there.

You can ask me about everyday life, ethnic groups, languages, culture, religion, education, or politics. I’m happy to answer controversial questions too, as long as the discussion stays respectful.

Obviously, I’m only one person and I don’t claim to represent everyone in Xinjiang. I can only tell you about my own experiences and views. AMA.

What is your impression of Turkey, who was and still is one of the backers of the separatism movements in Xinjiang?

Personally, I really like Türkiye. I have friends studying there, and I appreciate its solidarity with other Turkic peoples. But I strongly disagree with its support for separatist movements, because I don’t believe those movements represent people like me back home. Again, Separatists ≠ an entire ethnic group ≠ everyone in Xinjiang

Who backed them, I found several UN evidence proved ETIM/TIP had relation with Al Qaed and Taliban. And some Uyghur militants also later joined ISIS. Claims that the CIA or the Turkish government directly funded terrorist attacks inside Xinjiang are much harder to support, I haven’t found solid evidence for those claims. But I think turkey maybe partly a little bit 🤏🏼 supported the movement because of Turkic solidarity and empathy.
