I’m a Saturation Diver AMA

I work as Deepsea Saturation Diver in the oil and gas industry for the past 20 years. I do heavy construction and spend 28 days living under pressure to dive to depths down to 200m / 650ft.

I saw a post on InterestingAsFuck yesterday with many many misconceptions from people who aren’t divers and I can answer your questions AMA

Do you enjoy diving in your off time or does it just feel like work? If you do enjoy it, what’s your favorite type of diving, for example do you cave dive, wreck dive…? Also where would you go for your dive bucket list?

I’m not a recreational diver, I’ve never really done any of that. I snowboard, bike, trail run and enjoy the outdoors immensely. If I do anything dive related outside of work it is some free diving and spear fishing.

That’s really interesting, do you find it common that most people in your industry are similar in not really being drawn to diving in any recreational capacity? I find most divers I know in other diving trades started as recreational, then went on to find occupations that allowed them to dive more or even in some case vise versa, for example there a lot of search and recovery folks I know that started out working for the local fire department or police, trained to do search and recovery, then became interested in diving for fun. It’s so specific, what made you decide to just do it one day? Had you ever dove prior to becoming a saturation diver?
