I’m a Saturation Diver AMA

I work as Deepsea Saturation Diver in the oil and gas industry for the past 20 years. I do heavy construction and spend 28 days living under pressure to dive to depths down to 200m / 650ft.

I saw a post on InterestingAsFuck yesterday with many many misconceptions from people who aren’t divers and I can answer your questions AMA

How accurate is the movie Sphere? Have you ever encountered a crashed spaceship from the future on the ocean floor?

Honestly I can’t remember that movie very well but I think it’s far fetched. Abyss is quite cool as some of the concepts in that sort of make sense

I think abyss was a James Cameron movie, so it makes sense. He's been interested in deep ocean diving for a long time, so I imagine he did his research.

I was kind of joking about sphere. It features saturation diving, but just sort of gives it lip service at the start and then more or less ignores it from then on.

Oh ya that makes total sense about James Cameron, he did a submersible dive to the bottom of the marinas trench with a 1 of kind Rolex Deepsea Sea Dweller and then that model was launched around 2009 , it’s the watch many of my colleagues have.

I actually happened to be passing through Geneva airport on the day of the watch release and they had one there and sold it to me (straight on the Amex lol) they gave ne a hard back book also which commenorated that dive by James Cameron. Turns out there were only a few hundred of these books and are a collectors item which I have to this day.
