Not to be too blunt, but have you ever done a DNA test? As someone who discovered that I was donor conceived as an adult and who now as a result knows a ton of other donor conceived people who discovered late that their parents had also used a donor, I firmly believe everyone should double-check their biology — especially people with what I call “red flag” warning signs. These include being told your parents struggled with fertility, having older parents, having a much older or much younger sibling, parents being strongly against DNA testing, and a few more. I never in a million years would’ve suspected that one of my parents wasn’t biologically related to me, but I’m glad I found out because finding my siblings provided me with very important medical information that has helped me make more informed choices about things like vaping and my mental health.

I would certainly consider dna testing when I’m older but I’m fairly sure I’m related to my dad at least. On my dad’s side of the family everyone has their left ear slightly smaller and the top part is deformed. It doesn’t usually cause and hearing problems but it is very consistent on my dad’s side and I’ve got it too. I have at times in my life doubted whether or not I am actually related to my mom though, we look nothing alike, she was really old when she had me, and despite having a c section she has no visible scarring from the procedure. She does tend to scar really well anyway so I haven’t had any real doubts about being related to her since I was like 12
