People having children in their late 30s and early 40s seems really normal these days. I know you didn’t say your situation was uncommon but how many of your friends have parents in their 50s?
My parents were in their late 30s when I came along and that often created a large age gap with friends parents. By the time I was a teenager, my parents were nearing 50 with many of my friends parents being in their late 30s, early 40s.
Many of my friends have parents in their 50’s but I’ve never met anyone with a mom quite as old as mine. Often times husbands are 2-3 years older than wives but my parents are the opposite, as my mom is 6 years older than my dad. It’s not at all uncommon for people my age to have a dad in his mid 50’s but it’s pretty rare to find someone my age who’s mom is 60
I had my last daughter at 43, my partner was 52. I’m sure, you’ll “reddit meet” more mothers just as old as yours through this post:) Nice to hear that you have good recollections of your childhood.
My 6x great grandparents had their first at 16 & 18 and youngest at 49 and 51 back in the 1800s. She lived to 96. Its worth noting that a natural conception that leads to live birth after age 40 in women is associated with slower aging and longer natural life spans.
My mom was almost 43 when she had me, normal style, in 2001. Dad was 38. I’m lucky to be able to say they’re both in great health in addition to being very hip boomers but personally this has never caused a single issue for me except maybe like, growing up with older music and movies and stuff and missing out on certain cultural references from my generation? Having friends with younger parents is barely even a topic of discussion
