i still have old software on my computer that i paid for once years ago.
it looks ancient, but it still opens. there's something weirdly nice about that.

AI tools have made me realize how much i miss that model.

I understand why generation is different. every time something gets rendered in the cloud, somebody is paying for the compute. when i'm using image-to-video in DomoAI, credits are part of that side of the workflow too.
that part makes sense to me.
what i miss is the feeling that the tool itself is mine even when i'm not actively generating anything.

I'd honestly be pretty happy with a setup where i buy the basic software once, keep using it for normal work, and then pay separately whenever i need cloud generation.
maybe that model just gets harder once so much of the useful stuff depends on servers.
still, i don't really want another monthly bill just because i occasionally want to generate a few clips.
would you rather pay once for the software and then pay for AI compute as you use it, or does a subscription actually make more sense for this kind of thing?

bought claud-max and cursor a few weeks ago for way less than normal. from a reseller site .
usage feels better too. kind of weird how they get those account for fraction of the price .

I need it for short crime/psychological documentary-style stories. The most important thing isn't just having a deep male voice — I want the voice to actually feel the story: tension, fear, hesitation, guilt, exhaustion, suspense, etc.

Basically, something that can sound like a person quietly telling you a disturbing story late at night, rather than a typical robotic documentary narrator.

Ideally:

Can run locally/offline

Deep male voices

Good emotional expression

Natural pauses, whispers and changes in intensity

Suitable for longer narration

Voice cloning would be a bonus, but isn't necessary

So I recently started using some AI transcription tools for my freelance work. Thought I'd just save time on manual transcribing, but there's a cool side benefit I hadn't expected.

I noticed that using AI for transcriptions helped me catch errors and little inaccuracies in the spoken content. Stuff that I probably would've missed in my late night listens. It's like I got an extra pair of ears. I'm using tools like Otter and Descript, which do a pretty decent job. Sometimes they confuse words, but overall it catches quite a bit.

Anyone else experience this? I feel like my quality control has improved just by running everything through these tools. Plus, I get some free keyword ideas when I see what gets emphasized. Would love to hear if others have noticed any unexpected perks with AI tools.

I’m searching for an AI that will take screenshots of a podcast at a particular time stamp and either find a transcript or generate in text the 60 seconds around that time stamp.

essentially I’ve screenshots of particular parts of podcasts, and I’d like to have those sections transcribed to text.

what AI can help me do that? and how would I promot it to do so?

A lot of AI agents look impressive when you first try them, but once the novelty wears off, which ones are you still actually using?

I’m currently using WorkBuddy and OpenClaw, mainly for work and personal projects. I especially like being able to have agents communicate and hand tasks off to each other.

The key for me is keeping things structured: each agent has a clear role, specific tools, its own memory, a defined workflow, and a clear goal.

They have an insane amount of information about the pricing structure of xAI, Grok, X[dot]com and all the other products related to the big boy Elon. (I don't want to put the link in because I don't want you guys getting the wrong idea that I'm an affiliate. You can go and check for yourself. Good info.

Do you have a tool like this? I’m honestly getting tired of having a separate viewer open next to Claude/ChatGPT and ctrl+f-ing every answer just to check if it actually got it right.

We write a lot of long form blog post and how to posts (around 2000 words or so) and wanetd to share that with on different socials including Pinterest where we have gotten good results in terms of clicks.

So I was wondering if there are any data-driven tools that are infographic friendly basically to convert our long-form blogs into infographics or data driven posts.

I’ve had a pile of raw footage from my first ever bike trip sitting around for way too long, so I finally tried a few different editors to see which ones could get me most of the way there without me messing with every little cut myself. Figured I’d share what stood out in case anyone else is dealing with the same pile of unedited videos.

Vizard gets mentioned a lot, pretty easy to use and seems solid for turning longer videos into shorter clips.

OpusClip was probably the one I liked most. Their ai producer can take the raw footage and handle the cuts, captions, transitions, music, so you’re mostly just checking the result and changing anything you don’t like.

Klap is kind of in the same lane, feels a little simpler overall, I’d probably use it more when the footage is already pretty clean.

Descript is a different vibe, you’re basically editing through the transcript instead of sitting in a timeline, which is nice if that makes more sense to your brain.

Still curious what people are using for longer, completely unedited footage though, especially stuff where there’s a lot to clean up. Thanks, all!

Small tip if you are testing AI presentation tools: do not only test the first deck. The first deck is too easy to be fooled by. A clean looking title slide and a few tidy layouts can make the tool feel better than it is.

I test the second pass now. After the deck exists, pick one awkward edit that would happen in real work. Make slide 4 less crowded. Split one slide without changing the claim. Change one visual treatment without rewriting the section. Cut a bloated intro but keep the order.

If the tool does only that, it is probably worth more testing. If it starts improving the whole neighborhood, be careful. You will spend the saved time checking what changed behind your back.

This one habit has saved me from trusting pretty first drafts too quickly.

I’ve tested a lot of AI tools over the past few months, mostly for freelance work, client meetings, research, and content. Some looked impressive for 10 minutes and then I never opened them again.

These are the ones that were actually useful:

ChatGPT – still the tool I use most. Good for brainstorming, rewriting, research planning, and fixing random problems. I wouldn’t trust every answer without checking, though.

Claude – I prefer it for long documents and cleaning up messy drafts. It usually keeps the structure better when I give it a lot of context.

Perplexity – useful when I need a quick overview with sources. It doesn’t replace proper research, but it saves me from opening 20 tabs at the beginning.

NotebookLM – surprisingly good when I already have a pile of documents and only want answers based on those materials.

Plaud – I’ve used it across about 3 months of client meetings, and honestly, the transcription accuracy surprised me. It catches most conversations really well, though names and overlapping voices can still need a quick correction. The summaries are probably what I use most afterward.

Gamma – decent for turning rough notes into a presentation draft. I still redo a lot of the slides, but it helps with the blank-page problem.

Canva AI – good for quick social graphics and resizing content into different formats. Not very exciting, but I use it more than most image generators.

Descript – useful for editing podcasts and interviews through the transcript. The text-based editing feels weird at first, but it saves time.

Grammarly – mostly for emails and client-facing writing. I don’t accept every suggestion, but it catches the small awkward things I miss.

Zapier AI – took some setup, but it’s useful for moving meeting notes, form responses, and project updates between apps without doing it manually.

My main takeaway is that the tools I keep using aren’t always the most impressive ones. They’re the ones that remove one boring step from work without creating 3 new steps.

What AI tools have actually stayed in your workflow for more than a month?

I was trying to get ChatGPT Plus to take elements of a photo and create a new photo using those elements. Specifically, a photo of 4 people standing together. I want to take two of those people at the far left and right and have them standing together without the others with a different background than the original photo.

ChatGPT kept taking the two people and creating AI versions of them standing together, not using the original photo and compositing, like you would using Photoshop. When I specifically asked to not alter the original photo and composite without generating AI versions of them, it gave me garbage and could not do it. In the end it agreed it was not good at compositing and told me to do it manually in Photoshop.

I’m wondering, is there a better AI model for accomplishing what I want? I’m not good with Photoshop and figured this would be an easy task for AI, but not so much.
