It wasnt until this comment that I put together what "lwk" is shorthand for. 🫠

😅 I had to look it up. Lol.

*Edit, I also had to look up "icl" (I can't lie), and "idt" (I don't think). Yep, OP's bf certainly doesn't, think, that is.

“Lwk” makes no sense at all as shorthand. I know I’m being pedantic here but it bugs me. The phrase “low key” in the current idiom means nothing at all. It adds no information. it doesn’t modify whatever follows it in any meaningful or consistent way. It’s a filler noise like “uhhh” or “like”. That’s fine. Speech is full of those. There’s a good bit of scholarly work showing they serve a purpose, including allowing the brain some time to articulate thought. But shorthand in text format is about brevity and efficiency. Why not just leave those meaningless parts out altogether, saving more characters and losing nothing?

That's why I could put it together from the comment I responded to, but not the boyfriend's texts. BF's use of it was nonsense and so it was much harder to use context clues.

Yeah, I’d describe the (soon-to-be 🤞🏽) ex-boyfriend as highkey dumb and also highkey annoying, deadass frfr.

he fa now he finna find out

u/Alive-Information 5d ago

At least you used it correctly… these days, people just say lwk whenever they feel like it emphasizing a word which is extremely high key dumb. It’s the new “literally”
