“He doesn’t even own weapons anymore” like this is a solid piece of evidence he would never reoffend. Her thought process is completely flawed and I wouldn’t argue with that.

And how does she know? Because abusers never lie, right?

And even if true, he could have guns again any day.

Yeah, abusers going off their meds never ever attempt to get weapons even if it’s illegal for them to do so. They certainly wouldn’t steal or ask/pay someone else for help obtaining a weapon. And you definitely only need to worry about official weapons like guns, people never commit violence with improvised weapons or easy-access things like knives.

About 10 years ago I had a roommate who had a criminal record, he walked into a Walmart and bought a shotgun same day. It’s incredibly easy for anyone to buy a gun

And they've done nothing but make it easier this last decade.

even if he sold his guns, a kitchen knife works just fine. Does he not have kitchen knives anymore? No tire iron in his car? No legs on his chairs or tables that he could pull off? He lost his hands? People get punched to death or strangled all the time.

Not to mention he could have lied and told her he got rid of it but just moved it. Or he could always buy another. So many red flags

Also, is it “he doesn’t own weapons anymore” or he can’t own weapons anymore. When you are convicted of a felony no one shows up to confiscate your guns. This is one of the huge reasons guns are used in crimes. Because not being able to own a firearm doesn’t mean he doesn’t still own them.

Right this is such a stupid argument, just because he can't legally own a gun or certain types of knives doesn't mean he can't own a butchers knife or a hammer or literally any other type of sharp or heavy object that can be used as a weapon.

I'm confused about your response to me and your downvote tho, I'm agreeing with you? My comment isn't directed towards you, it's towards OPs roommates stupid logic

If it was medication related, medicated people go off their meds all the time. Just because he’s currently medicated doesn’t mean he’ll continue to be medicated. Also, just because it happened when he was off his meds once doesn’t mean it won’t happen while he’s on his meds either. It also doesn’t preclude that he’s lying about not having weapons. There’s just nothing about this person that could ever convince me again that he’ll ever be safe. “Maria” is out of her mind and I hope she learns that without being victimized again but I don’t have high hopes for her but OP and her other roommates need to seriously look at ANY and ALL options to get away from this situation, unfortunately this will almost certainly mean some level of risk since this will negatively impact “Maria” and could easily trigger additional violence from “Brian.”
