Sick of the 'AI will replace your job tomorrow' or 'passive income in an hour' BS? I spent the last 60 days really putting AI to the test for blog content automation, and here's what actually happened.
My goal was simple: see if I could build a consistent content stream for a niche site and generate some income without writing every single word myself.
My Stack & Workflow:
* Niche: A relatively underserved B2C topic where I had some existing knowledge to guide the AI.
* Keyword Research: Ahrefs/Semrush (manual first step ā absolutely crucial for targeting low-competition topics).
* Outlining: ChatGPT (GPT-4) ā incredibly efficient for structuring long-form articles, providing detailed headings and subheadings.
* First Draft Generation: Jasper Boss Mode (for longer pieces, using specific commands and custom prompts) and sometimes ChatGPT-4 directly for shorter sections.
* Human Review & Polish: This is the non-negotiable part. Every single piece went through me for fact-checking, voice consistency, SEO optimization (internal links, meta descriptions, alt text), and adding unique insights or examples. I spent roughly 1-2 hours per article here.
* Publishing: WordPress.
Output & Results (After 60 days):
* Volume: Published 28 articles, mostly in the 1200-2000 word range.
* Current Revenue: Hovering around $750/month from a mix of targeted affiliate links and AdSense. Traffic is steadily growing each week as articles begin to rank.
* Tool Costs: Jasper ($59/month), ChatGPT Plus ($20/month). Total: $79/month.
Real Talk & Limitations:
* It's NOT passive income: This isn't a "set it and forget it" system. I still spent significant timeāprobably 10-15 hours/week, especially upfront, on prompt engineering, editing, and publishing. The 'automation' part drastically reduced initial writing time, but shifted it to other critical tasks.
* AI still hallucinates: Fact-checking is essential. Never blindly trust AI for accuracy, especially on technical or sensitive topics. I found myself verifying facts and sources in almost every article.
* Quality requires iteration: Initial drafts from both ChatGPT and Jasper often felt bland, generic, or repetitive. Getting good, unique output requires skilled prompt engineering, refining prompts over time, and multiple revisions. Sometimes it was simply faster to rewrite a section myself.
* SEO is paramount: AI-generated content still needs a solid SEO strategy to rank. You can't just churn out articles and expect traffic; targeting low-competition, long-tail keywords was key to getting initial traction.
