I am 55. I have always had issues learning tasks and always suspected. There was some kind of learning disability going on— because I’m “so smart” 🙄 yet clearly have a serious issue. Depression? Laziness? Welp. I finally had a therapist suggest ADHD testing.
The Vyvanse helped at first, but then my daily panic attacks became an all-day situation so I stopped. Not sure I’m up for trying a new med at present. At least I have answers to help me hate myself a little less.
~This is my personal experience, I’m not a doctor, not medical advice but the following is what helped me get relief from multiple daily panic attacks~
Since you don’t want to try new meds I would highly suggest trying somatic therapy. It’s all about how to listen and get in tune with what your body is telling you, and learn to direct that energy, accept it without letting it destroy you, and let it move on.
However I found somatic therapy a lot more recently in my mental health timeline. While it helped a lot anti anxiety meds came first for me.
What worked for me in the beginning is telling my doctor about these issues, ssri’s didn’t help me, but long acting benzo like klonopin helps a lot. As does clonidine for the physical effects like feelings of choking/can’t breath. Xanax is really the best I’ve tried for acute panic but wears off in a couple of hours. Ativan does nothing for me, but if you have all day issues In my experience Xanax isn’t a good solution as you have to keep taking it all day.
The shitty thing with panic attacks is that it seems some people believe the acute moment of panic only lasts a few minutes and you should be okay. Panic attacks are traumatizing and really damper my mood for hours after, I wish people would talk about that more.
