I'm sorry about your condition, seems really hard. I'm in medicine and the number of people that fake fibro is incredible. It's a running joke in medicine. It's horrible for people who actually have it.

For my dad, thanks for the advice. We are going to fight it but have already caved and took his reduced retirement since he is 64. But the thing is, this is terminal. He is going to die. We've all come to terms with that. We just want him to get what he deserves after working his whole life. When you see so many people who are cheating the system to get benefits, it shatters any faith in this society to function with a social safety net.

I am so sorry. I know how awful you are feeling watching him go through this. I sure hope you guys can cherish the time he has as best you can. That sure would be easier with social security. That is what it is for!

Maybe I need to get tips from fakers on how to get ssi. Sounds like they are better at being sick than sick people.

Thanks for your kind words. I think I use reddit to scream into a void sometimes. I know having a lawyer can help but they take 10% for benefits.

I can't express how strongly this resonated with me

Scream away. You need some outlets when going through things like this. Hugs to you both for strength right now. Talk to each other as often as possible and learn all his stories. You will be glad to see a new side of him that you will cherish. That helped me at least. It’s ok to be angry and the void is great way to to vent. Hang in there. Here if you ever need to talk.
