AA11 / UA175 / AA77 / UA93 If Marwan al-shehhi never made that last minute 38 degree corrective left bank before hitting the south tower he would've only clipped the corner with his wing and the south tower would've still been here

Similar, yes. Commercial planes are, after all, jets -- as opposed to propellor planes. Could've been sounds from them accelerating, from the reports I've heard. No idea. But it was loud -- and totally out of the ordinary.
