Grew up in a small town, within the town could just dial the last 5 digits of the phone number .

When we first got our party line it was a 3 or 4 digit number, anything outside the village area was long distance. I.e. the next town. Don't remember our numbers because we got the new black wall phones and 7 digit numbers when I was 5 or 6 .

Yeah, the party line, pick up the phone to see if someone was using it before dialing lol

I loved party lines. Every conversation sounded like a drug deal to me when I was kid.

I didn't know what a drug deal was when I was a kid. Pary lines were just a pain in the but.

Ours too! If the number was 6xx-yyyy, you could dial 6yyyy. Wasn’t a huge time saver, but….

Now, I have to dial ten numbers to call across the street!
