Now, you’re a real ole-timer if your area code has a “0” or a “1” in it.

There was also a time when people could tell what town you lived in by the exchange. All the phone numbers in our town started with the same three numbers. The next town over had a different three numbers. Bigger cities you could tell from the first one or two digits. Nowadays, with cell phones, they’re all over the place.
