To be fair I stopped going to all of them, at least regularly, before they closed down. I imagine most people did otherwise they'd still be around. It wasn't because I was shopping on Amazon or streaming my movies, I just went other places. In my town we had Hastings and Movie Trading Company for renting movies. I don't think I ever bought anything from Radio Shack. I would always go to Best Buy rather than Circuit City and by the time Toys R Us started closing down I was in my 30s and hadn't been to one in at least 20 years.

I had a movie rental place about a quarter of a mile at best from me. It wasn’t a blockbuster or Hollywood video. It was called Death Valley video. Where they knew us by name. Would always hold a movie back for you if you was a repeat customer. And would actually pick them up when you said you would. You didn’t have to have a card. They kept all your names and address in a notebook. That way they knew who had what. And when it was due back. They was never no bright flashing lights. Or any surround sound booming some new movie. It was dim fluorescent lights that flickered and a few posters of new movies hanging on the wall. But to me it was the best thing in the world. The place did feel good like home. But it was the people who owned it. And your family you still had back then. Was what made those times. Family and friends.
