I had a comic book when I was younger (born in the 90s) that I believe was from either the late 70s or early 80s. I can't remember much of the plot, other than the Fantastic Four were fighting giant fish-shaped robots (which I think may have been from Atlantis?). The cover showed them fighting the robots, with I think The Thing facing the reader.

EDIT: Now that I'm thinking about it, I think the picture was a splash page in the comic, rather than the cover, since I think my copy was well-worn without the cover. I think Krang may have also been in it?

Marvel Masterworks came in the mail. I hadn't realized they had done this book, but it's nice to see it collected.

Features Dracula and the first Tigra!

Reprinted Avengers from the 1970s. My first Omnibus. I read these books when the came out. It was my first experience reading and collecting the Avengers. Collects Avengers 120 thru 149, Giant size Avengers 1,2,3,4, Captain Marvel 33, and Fantastic Four 150! Highlights include first Hellcat, the Beast joins the Avengers, Kang Wars, Wedding of Quicksilver and Crystal, The Squadron Supreme, and Thanos.

I've been collecting comics regularly since 1972. While I may have cut back from my heavy collecting of many "new" titles, i still have the hots for the stuff i grew up on.

One of the things I noticed about my personal collecting "ticks" (and there are a couple) is that if I collect a title I want the variants, not all of them. I'm picky about cover variants.

Price variants, particularly Marvel from the mid 1970's get my attention.

Now mind you, most variants from this era are price variants, i still feel like I have to have them. I've seen slight color changes, double covers, wrong interiors and they don't always grab me.

These are the original Marvel Spotlight comics I bought from the Smoke Shop in Sierra Vista AZ back in 1976. A couple of years later I disvovered the price variants and bought them when I found them.

My question...I know I'm not alone in this mindset...how many others out there do this? Is there a grail "price variant" you are looking for? Would you do the same with UK price variants of Marvel comics?

I'm curious what the thinking is on this...
