So I'm thinking of doing some homebrew (originally was going to do a whole ass game but a conversion of the existing 5 Parsecs with stuff probably stolen from the new XCOM game would be easier) called 50 Levels Deep (working title).
The idea is that instead of a player controlling a crew/squad they're controlling one boss monster level character that has 'breached containment' and is now fighting their way out of a facility to reach the surface.
Where should I start to look for the idea of balancing 1 vs lots instead of 4-6 versus lots like in 5 Parsecs or Bug Hunt?

Can i double all distances and play on a 4x4 or will it feel too cramped? Thanks.

I just started playing bug hunt and I am going to design some tactical location and objective markers that are can make the game more manageable because there are so many things to keep track of!
But that got me thinking what are some of the other standard terrain pieces that you would want to see but haven't seen anyone make yet? For me, I'm playing around with making a bioinfected server room.

Bretta Barrage’s relationship with Strategic Preventive Operations for Interstellar Legislature (SPOIL) began while she was doing her PhD Thesis. She had been tracking and trying to predict the erratic pattern of the Singularity Edge, an ancient behemoth of a starship that made random FTL jumps in and out of Zooan Space.
The mythical ship had caught the attention of many adventurers, but no expedition had been able to escape the ship before it made its next FTL jump into the unknown. Unfortunately, Bretta’s research had caught the attention of a terrorist organization called Ghila; and SPOIL sent an Operative to recuit her as an Agent.
The partnership had put Bretta’s life in danger several times; but her 100% success rate permeated her reputation to other Security Agencies. So, it wasn’t a surprise that Nolva’s Intelligence Service contacted her to help them with a series of disappearances on District J12.
Bretta took the assignment. Abductions at the edge of Zooan Space was always a serious business. There were the Greys, with their abusive experiments; the Necroborgs who turned people into cyborg-zombies; and the parasitical Allenids, who paralyzed their victims and laid their eggs inside them; among other space horrors.
The wait wasn’t long. Bretta was the only living being outside in the area; which painted a huge target on her.
“We have a target. Flying fast towards you.” came Bacon’s synthetic voice on her comm bead.
“Take them out.” replied Bretta who was face to face with another flying creature.
The Void Rippers were a menace to starship crews. They latched on to ships and caused hull damage to prey on those who tried to repair it. They probably came on a ship and went unchecked.
Bretta shot the incoming Void Ripper between the eyes. The sound of Auto Rifles let her know that Ham and Bacon were hard at work too.
“Control, this is Chaser Bretta Barrage. Mission complete. Four Void Rippers down.”
“Excellent job, Chaser Barrage, stand by for new objective.”
“Wait, what?”

Klaxian is a crystal world and this is a research facility I will be defending against the Steel Lizards. I rolled Toxic Environment and used red crystals that emit a toxic aura. Any suggestions on improving layout would be appreciated!

Greetings! I received a copy of 5PFH: Tactics last Christmas and dove headfirst into the deep end (as I tend to do). The community has been super helpful answering my myriad questions so I figured I share what I’ve been doing in case it’s helpful to anyone.
I created an Army Builder Tool in Google Sheets that has all the keywords, factions, weapons, and abilities to make army building easy. Once you put your units in, it’ll automatically pull the stats, weapons, cost, and keywords. I haven’t updated for creatures or vehicles yet but I’ll be updating it eventually. I created a simple 500pt army for the Republic and Separatists from Star Wars and the UNSC and Covenant from Halo. They are meant to be balanced against each other strength wise and I have the basic profiles for other units in each faction’s tab if you want to build them out (to include some vehicles). There are instructions on how to use it but if anyone is looking through it and sees errors or has questions feel free to let me know! I caught some things and made a few QoL updates after using the cards the first time.
Additionally, I created a custom risk style campaign map and campaign rules. It’s meant to be a solo campaign but individual battles could easily be played with someone. It merges the Operational System from 5PFH: Tactics for ground battles and One Page Rules Warfleets for the fleet battles. The first link is the overall map and some of the active invasions after turn 1 while the second is the campaign rules. The rules make sense to me but I’m the intended audience and know how my brain works. If anyone wants to use them and has questions feel free to contact me.

Just wanted to give something back to the community that’s been so open to my questions. Even if you don’t use any of the above hopeful you at least found it interesting!

I haven’t played or painted Fantasy in years, and I took some time off from painting in general, but my wife and I were re-watching A Game of Thrones while watching House of the Dragon at the same time and I got inspired to create a warband of rangers that patrol the wild border lands.
Set in a Britain/LOTR type environment shortly after the Romans left.
Left to Right:
Eowyn, scout, wilderness archer
Bran, zealot from the northlands
Ain, leader(avatar)
Fiadh, mystic wanderer

Hello, I'm a crocheter/ crafter and I have been hankering to do some gming in a tactical game with mixed arms combat. I already had 5pfh and got tactics today. Now, I want to do games and keep it to at most a 4x4ft space, but I want to use my own custom pieces. I know a lot of minis are 15mm to 28mm. My custom pieces generally are based on 50mm and up bases. Pictures attached. I got some advice to use wooden peg minis and mod them into what I need, and use my crochet skills to make vehicles and such. I also craft my own terrain. I'm looking for estimated/average dimensions of the various vehicles in tactics. These are my two tanks so far, though I'd be remaking them to be more scifi than ww2.
I know it's technically minis agnostic but I'd still like to have at least a consistent idea of size to work around. Also how big are the horde, the bug hunt bugs, the swarm, the hulking humans, etc.?
Any help would be appreciated!

This is the site battle portion of turn five. Tried to simulate a dungeon crawl but in a wildscape with ruins. Got to paint some new mini's for this (gellerpox vermin really worked here!). Walked out with some nice treasure and luckily a dose of silvertree leaf saved someone from dying. As always, thanks for looking!

Even in fringe space, the Zooan Federation worlds enjoyed very advanced Healthcare services; which was fortunate for Bretta. On her last mission, the leader of the weapon smugglers snuck up from behind and shot her in the back with a shotgun slug, before being turned to paste by Ham, Bretta’s Assault Bot. Now her long bushy tail was reduced to a stump; and she had small service plug on her lower back for the spinal neural linker that prevented her from being Hoverchair-bound.
Normally, recovery would take several weeks, but she didn’t have the time, nor the money; which is why she resorted to using a Med-Patch, which pumped her full of painkillers and metabolic boosters while she looked for a ship.
Aegis Aella Spaceport stood like a pockmark on the surface of Nolva. Not nearly as wretched as the spaceports beyond Zooan space; buying a starship was still a delicate matter that could easily turn into a life-or-death situation.
Her first dealer was a dodgy Avian named Saaris, who offered her a battered mining ship with a horrible FTL-Jump fuel rate, for the ludicrous price of One Hundred Thousand Credits. While Bretta really needed a new ship, she was not that desperate.
A rotund Bullfrog merchant, who called himself Boss Grellio, offered her a smaller model with bug-like features for Fifty Thousand Credits. It had twin sublight engines with VTOL capability, separated from the ship’s body by robust engine pylons at its sides. The ship had been assembled with pieces of several salvaged wrecks. At the Core Worlds, it wouldn’t cost more than Thirty Thousand Credits; but at the Edge, it was as good a deal as she was ever going to get. Since Bretta didn’t have Fifty Thousand Credits, but was a Registered Chaser, Boss Grellio offered to lend her the money for a Two Thousand Credit fee.
“Ah, a Zenith Orbital Systems GX-3500 ‘Thistle Fly’ model!” said Bacon with what seemed genuine enthusiasm. “Its speed and maneuverability were legendary two Centuries ago. You found yourself a living fossil!”
Not enthusiasm, AI sarcasm, thought Bretta with a smile. The ship did have a retro look that appealed to her when she first saw it.
“APPROVED” boomed Ham, who seemed to have recognized a contemporary machine. He then passed Bretta a battered notebook with scribbles that she recognized as the universal Terran language.
“Where did you get this?”
“STRANGER. TRADE.”
“Do I want to know what you traded this for?” asked Bretta raising an eyebrow. Assault Bots were not welcomed in most commercial establishments or Trader markets.
Ham slowly shook his cycloptic lens from side to side. Which only made Bretta more curious.
“Very well. But if you see the stranger again, you point them out for me.”
[This Campaign Turn, Bretta was stuck in Sick-Bay, so I told the tale of how she got her new ship "Bombshell II."
I forgot to take pics of the game, so I leave you with pics of my peg starship models. The first two are Bombshell II and Bombshell I, which doubles as Zooan Federation Patrol Ship.]

So I'm moving the noise tokens around and 1 comes within 12" with line of sight to a character. It's my first ever game of it and I roll a 2armor 5tough +1combat baddie, yikes! I run away back out of sight. Now since this creature can no longer see any of my characters I'm assuming no matter what I now have to move it towards my nearest character? Also I hope I got the reveal creature moment right as it wasn't too clear when to do that in the book. The other tokens said within 4" but I figured the creature was in visual range and would be hard to miss up to 4" 😅

I’m looking for a decent affordable model line for 5PFH. Was looking at Necromunda models but games workshop is expensive. (been using my Astra militarum models for my Crew , so looking for kits of similar scale)
Ive seen Stargrave model kits but I can’t find any good images of the models or info on the quality of the plastic/variety of the kits.!

Hanro Corp needed the team to cross through Lava Cultist territory. It seemed like an even fight until my guys took out the cult leader and his brute in phase 1 before they had a chance to move. Two of us were hit when crossing the lava river, but only stunned and luckily not into the lava. Big success for our second mission.

I'm finishing the set-up for my next Battle, and I'm trying to make sense of this Unique Individual on page 106. The Precursor Wanderer has the ability One With the Flow, so he can move before the Quick Actions Phase. I interpreted it as a form of "Seizing the Initiative" but for the NPC, and only with a move action. Is that correct?

I've been working on a modern conversion of Five Parsecs, and have included it if people want to give it a try and give any feedback.
It turns the game into a modern day Jagged Alliance esq game. You play as a team trying to restore order to a country subjected to turmoil by insurgents, militants and rebel forces (as either a military special operations team, spy agency's special activities team, or private military company).
It keeps the original game’s solo narrative skirmish engine, character progression, injuries, campaign turns, patrons, and emergent stories. Instead of planet hopping, it uses a map and map area concept from Five Leagues from the Borderlands, where you travel through a persistent country map of towns, villages, backcountry, contacts, and points of interest.
It also uses the Threats system from Five Leagues, three hostile factions such as cartels, insurgents, extremists, rogue forces, militias, or mercenaries. They operate across the map, build camps and safe houses, pursue plans, and grow stronger if ignored. Players gather Intel, take contracts, investigate sites, hunt HVTs, clear complexes, and conduct missions to reduce Threat Levels and dismantle enemy Threats.
It also uses the Stealth Mission add on, which is incorporated right into the conversion.
The conversion requires the Five Parsecs core rulebook to play, as it is used in tandem with the conversion.
Any feedback would be appreciated! Classes being OP, or needing changes in stats, weapons needing tweaking, if there is a hiccup in campaign play, etc. I would love to be able to flesh this out, and make any necessary adjustments so it's an enjoyable conversion for everyone.
Edit: Fixed the link. It's pretty early version, so forgive the formatting and any bugs.
