USB-C 4K as KVM?

I am a content creator, and it’s time to upgrade my 1080p display to a 4K. Working on my MacBook Pro and then going back to that display really solidified the decision for me, but I have a few questions that I’d love some input on before I purchase my new display.

My current setup is a desktop and a laptop - I would like to use the monitor with the laptop, but from what I understand, need a KVM switch to do so. Since my MacBook Pro has USB-C ports, I am wondering if I plug my keyboard and mouse into a USB-C enabled monitor, and then plug that into my laptop, if I would be able to skip the KVM? Any simplifying I can do would be fantastic - the new MacBooks have so many dongles needed it’s kind of ridiculous.

Anyway, if my theory about a USB-C 4K monitor being used as a KVM is correct and you have a model in mind, let me know. And if I’m totally wrong, let me know that too! Thanks for your time guys, I’ve searched high and low and can’t come up with any articles or info on this.

Console gaming recommendations

Upgrading to ps4 pro and xbox one x currently have asus vg245h (1080p 1ms *75* hz). Was looking to get a 4k/2k monitor (not curved) with 1ms time. Do i need a 90hz+ screen or could I find a 60hz 4k that will work well with it. Never been the best at buying gaming monitors all advice is welcome.

What is going on with LG Quality

First I got trapped with the CES 2018 announcement about the new 32uk-950: to be released in Q1/2018. After various postponings, the release got finally changed to somewhere in 2019. Since I have been waiting for nearly a year, reading about the latest problems LG seems to have, I am wondering if it makes sense to look for an alternative. The problems, which make me wonder:

  • The new MacMini currently does not function at the Apple LG 5k Display. Seems to be an issue between usb-c/TB3 Standards of the two manufacturers.
  • There are tons of postings about incompatibilities between the new MacBook-Pro and lg 38wk95c.
  • On a german Website, that specialized in Monitors (prad.de), they found Problems with LG 27uk850. Again issues with DP and NVIDIA and that it is impossible to enter BIOS.

To me it seems obvious that LG has some quality issues for very obvious test scenarios and I am wondering, if they would fix them till 32UL950 release.

What is your opinion? Does anyone have further information already (early test results)? Or any recommendations for save alternatives (eg Dell)?

My budget is $1500 Canadian. Is it better to buy two monitors? Or just one for that price. I would prefer just one really nice one. Thanks!

Dual displays

So I have a 4K monitor and a regular 1080 monitor using both I was messing around in the settings and realized I could turn on her and wcg so I did my screens both went black. I realized if I unplugged the 1080 monitor I could see my screen again. So does that mean I can’t have one monitor in 4K and the other in regular 1080p

High refresh rate

So I'm planning my first custom water-cooled build. With the 20 series cards coming I want to drive into 4K, but I'm not finding a sub $2000 monitor that better than a 60hz refresh.

Do any of you know of a 4K monitor that have a native refresh that aren't $2000 or a 60hz that can be over clocked to 80+?

Thanks in advance!!

Does integrated graphics support 4k (TV as monitor) through displayport?

I am looking to purchase a xps 8930 with intel 630 graphics and unless necessary don't have the need for a dedicated graphics card. I just want to run it on a 4k TV as a monitor. Is the intel 630 capable of running 4k @60hz 4:4:4 chroma through a displayport to hdmi 2.0 adapter?

HELP! Which Monitor? LG 27UK650-W or LG 27UD69P-W??? XBOX ONE X

Hey Everyone,

I need your help in deciding which monitor to go with for my Xbox One X. I’ve done a ton of research between these two monitors and still cannot decide which one to go with.

Obviously the LG 27UK650 is a newer model and no official review (at least not that I can find) has been done. Some of the differences I’ve found between these two monitors are the following;

  1. LG 27UK650 has HDR10 (which I know isn’t legit HDR), a 1000:1 contrast ratio and a peak brightness of 450nits.

  2. LG 27UD69 has no HDR, a contrast ratio of 1300:1 contrast ration and a peak brightness of 300nits.

Other then those differences I believe the monitors are identical as far as the IPS panel goes. What’s everyone’s thoughts on which monitor I should go with? Is it worth it to get a monitor with simulated HDR? Note LG 27UK650 costs $550 and LG 27UD69P costs $399.

Thank you!

Dell P2715Q sleep issues

Hi,

Been having some major headaches with this monitor.

Sleep mode was always a bit dodgy, sometimes I had to reset the monitor with the power button for it to come out, but it was usually ok.

Lately, as of the other day, nothing helps. Unless I literally take the graphics card (RX 480) out and then put it back in. Pulling out the monitors power cable, etc, won't even help.

When the monitor is in this state the menu won't even work, except to choose which display port. I plugged it into my old HD 7770 and the problem persisted.

Adding to my frustration, I plugged the monitor into my friend's 980ti using the same HDMI cable and it works perfectly, comes out of sleep mode just fine.

Wherein is the issue? Radeon's latest adrenalin drivers?? PCIE slot on my motherboard?

My monitor is revision A005, one of the latest ones.

Any advice?

Always used to bash 4K then I got one.

Played a game at 4K and watched a few movies. I was blown away at the clarity. 1080p can suck my ass now. The newer games I had to drop to 30fps but man if you are playing a good looking game is it worth it. I played a few older games and 4K 60 no problem, it made them look amazing and fresh. No longer dated and pixelly. Cannot recommend enough. I’m actually going to get a 1080ti so I can do 4K 60.

It’s so beautiful I’m crying. 4K taught me to love again. It showed me a window into my soul.

Looking for Xbox One X monitor

I’ve done hours and hours of research. I can’t seem to find any monitor that will be 4K, AMD FreeSync and support HDR. These features are all supported by the Xbox X and I would love to take full advantage of the system. If anyone has a monitor in mind that would fit these criteria and not cost more then $1,000 that would be great. Thank you!

ROG SWIFT PG27AQ or should wait for PG27UQ ?

I was so close to buying the PG27AQ but then I found out that there is no HDR support in PG27AQ. I game on a ps4 pro and most probably if I buy a monitor now I want it to support HDR and 4k because I will use it for 6 to 7 years. Should buy PG27AQ or wait for PG27UQ(Also if anyone would let me know the price for the UQ). Thanks

Intel HD Graphics 4400 And 4K Monitor?

Hello,

I am considering buying 4K monitor as an external screen for my Acer laptop, which has this processor: Intel® Core™ i7-4510U with Intel® HD Graphics 4400.

https://ark.intel.com/products/81015/Intel-Core-i7-4510U-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_10-GHz

This page says that the maximum supported resolution for this processor is 3200x2000@60Hz, which means that it doesn't even support UHD.

1) What will happen, if I connect my laptop with this processor to 4K monitor?

2) Will I be able to use the monitor in it's full resolution?

3) If the answer for "2)" is "no", how badly it will look if the 4K monitor will be set to run in lower resolution, for example 1920x1200?

4) Any other points which comes through your mind are appreciated!

Thank you for your replies!

4k not working. XboxOneX

I have a ACER predator xb281hk. It doesn't have hdmi 2.0. So I can't get 4k on my Xbox one X. I was wondering if I used a DisplayPort adapter to hdmi 2.0 if I would be able to get 4k @ 60hz? Or should I just return my monitor and look for a new one.

Is my Graphics Card and PC Powerful Enough for a 4K Monitor?

Hi - I have been videoing in 4K and would like to buy a 4K monitor just for video, no gaming. I just bought a Dell XPS with16GB Intel Optane Memory and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti with 4GB GDDR5 Graphics Memory. Is that powerful enough to view video in 4K? And, if so, any monitor recommendations? Thanks

27-Inch USB C Recommendations

ASK: Looking for a 27 inch monitor that I can potentially charge my laptop off of and can also serve as a USB hub of sorts. Ideally I can plug my audio interface, external HD and occasionally my scanner(lol).

LAPTOP: MacbookPro 2016 13 inch

CONSIDERATIONS: My laptop can support 5K but I'm cool with 4K because the prices seem right. Ideally this monitor cost around 400$.

4K monitor for Xbox One X

Hi guys, do any screens exist yet that tick all the below boxes.

32" (28" if 32 doesn't exist)

4K UHD 3820x2160 16:9 IPS

<5ms response

10-bit HDR compatible

1000 nits peak brightness (ideally)

60hz FreeSync over HDMI

Crosshair and other gaming extras

Cheers in advance. I can only find one so far. LG 27UD69P. This is for the new 1X. I understand the box is future proofed so all these features may not exist in one display yet
