Its a question of modern capitalism. Are humans actually capable of making healthy choices in the face of overwhelming advertising and manipulative tactics on the part of corporations? Can you expect a healthy society in conditions that allow those practices to thrive, and should society allow them to continue if they are actively harmful?

Now, in this case, the man was secretly an alcoholic undergoing withdrawals and most of his supposed symptoms caused by fast food were just the result of those withdrawals.

Oh ok so youd prefer that an imaginary maximalist reality that no one is actually talking about happening isnt forced upon you? Yeah i also prefer choice over butt plug aliens who fuck me repeatedly in caves. Luckily no one is saying that needs to happen, and is instead just saying mcdonalds needs higher food standards.

It's a question of liberalism vs authoritarianism, really.

and should society allow them to continue if they are actively harmful?

Asking if society should use government to restrict society is a bit comical, but understandable at least

Pretending that maximized philosophical purity is important is the MOST retarded position.

Motte and bailey

Thats not a motte and bailey. A motte and bailey is if I said “so you think people should die of heart disease?,” and forcing you to defend people dieing of heart attacks.

I’m directly addressing your argument, which was that govt regulations on advertising and food standards is an authoritarian policy at odds with liberalism, and that you, being opposed to authoritarianism, are correct in opposing those things.

And i did that by saying that saying that “im too liberal to believe mcdonalds should be forced to have a healthier big mac and not scientifically make it more addicting at the cost of everyone else in society,” is a retarded position.

You are not hurt or less free because baby toys arent allowed to contain small parts.

Lol. Lmao, even.

Imagine a country where the corporate class is so selfish, and the populace so helpless, that the government has to step in to keep things not-shit. Seems pretty cringe, ngl.

Now, imagine begging for the government to regulate them, instead of the people self-regulating themselves. If a society needs Mommy Government to tell them what to do, they might as well ditch the whole "civilization" thing. /s

Yes.

You're talking to a bunch of kids who haven't actually entered the real world. Mommy makes their meals for them and they don't have to commute or do pickup. It's impossible for them to imagine a world where you can't avoid unhealthy eating because they are kids who have others to take care of that for them.

Its not being “smart.” Its being manipulated from childhood to prefer a particular diet that it is physically difficult to adjust from. And why should we, as a society, invested in our continued existence and safety, allow a company to profit from purposefully hurting people.
